It looks like Haiti escaped the worse weather. But the Dominican Republic got it all as all the squalls and torrential rains were well east of the center. That is why Puerto Rico felt the big tail for 3 days.My condolenses to all the people in DR.Here in Puerto Rico there is a big population of Dominicans.

I can't believe you can say, "Haiti escaped the worse weather." There has been numerous precipitation over Haiti from last night through the morning hours. Additionally, we do not receive news from that country for many days, so it will take time to examine the true extent of the deaths and damages. There were few reports on the true extent of Jeanne's catastrophic toll from Haiti in the initial ~24-48 hours. Many areas are rural and impoverished in Haiti. Let's wait for more reports to come out from the region.

Hopefully, there won't be numerous deaths from Haiti and the Dominican Republic.

the rains are now starting to spread into Haiti. It looks as if they are now going to receive the heavy rainfall than the DR had been receiving

Another 5-10 inches possible

Another 5-10 would be terrible in Haiti. We need to get this thing up into Georgia and the Carolinas and away from the islands.......best wishes and prayers with those suffering so terribly there.

The title may need to be changed to reflect Florida, too (in addition to the Greater Antilles and Bahamas). Thanks for the updates on Hispaniola. Stay safe in the Bahamas!

Some areas received 30 inches of precipitation on Hispaniola. There are 11 deaths reported from the DR, but there has not been any reports from Haiti. This could be a sign of bad news.

We are at the north coast of the Dominican Republic. I haven't been out much, it is raining most of the times since yesterday, but it seems here we got spared so far with the worst. Nearby streets which are usually flooded when it rains a lot are still ok so far here.
South coast and inland seem to be much worst from what I see on local TV reports and Dominican online newspapers. Here a few links to articles (in Spanish) with pictures:

http://www.elnacional.com.do/article.aspx?id=30321
http://www.elnacional.com.do/article.aspx?id=30322

Haven't heard anything either so far from our neighbour country Haiti. News from there will come in very slow, all we can do is wait and hope that they didn't have another catastroph. It can take 2, 3 days or more till we know for sure.

As I said earlier in the thread,I extend my condolenses to the people of the Dominican Republic for those who died and who are still missing. If you get information from Haiti post it as soon you get it to have the members informed about what happened in that countrie.

I just received a phone call from my mom in Puerto Rico, and she tells me that they have been without power for about 2 days and had the whole first story of their apartment flood. She also tells me of trees down all over the place, similar to what happened in Broward during Wilma (she was here during Wilma). She lives in Palmas del Mar, Humacao.
