This is no surprise to anyone living in the Arctic region of the Earth where the effect has been the hardest. Antarctica's frozen kingdom is holding up although it's borders are melting.

The effects are beginning to be felt worldwide with more severe droughts and more severe rainy seasons. This is exactly what should be expected in a warmer world.

The future will bring more changes and more surprises unless Earth finds a way to balance itself out. This option is looking too promising at the moment.

HURAKAN, I very very very strongly disagree with you on this one. I also disagree with the United nations the people that made oil for food scam. The earth is not even ranking in the top 5 over the last few months overall temperature, and we have fallen to 3rd warmest over all. It will likely fall to 4th by the end of december at this rate. Much of the Antarctic is cooling at as much as one degree f based on data I've looked at. Also it just had a record sea ice event this year, in which more then balances out for the Arctic. Greenland has also been shown to have cooled slightly. We should give it another 2-3 years to make sure that we are not going into a cooling phase, this is to make sure that this was not just a warm period. It would be wise to make sure of that before putting everything at steak. Please, we must not go through with what the UN is planning to do. Record data of each time we hit a peak has been followed by a fast reverse into a ice age. For the good of man kind we must start building more plants to support out selfs through what possibly could be very bad.

Please HURAKAN and every one don't fall for the innerglacial as we come out of the little ice age. Please give it time.

Matt, Global Warming is occurring, that you don't want to admit it is another thing.

Is not that difficult to tie the knots.

Burning fossil fuels liberate CO2 that had been underground for millions of years, now we're taking putting it back in the atmosphere. Higher levels of CO2 means that more latent heat will be trapped, increasing the temperature of the planet.

It's true that we're in the middle of an interglacial period, but the warming that we're seeing cannot be just explained naturally. If you go back to the ice records collected in Antarctica, in the past 600,000 years we have never seen such high concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere.

You maybe right about what you say. But America could go back to the early 19th century and use Candles and we would not be able to stop the increase in CO2 because of Nations like China and India. China had in 2000, I believe like 54% of the Co2 produced to the United states, a report said a few months ago that they are now even with us if not more then us then we release per year. Which means that we could go down and they alone could rise as they become more of a first world nation. What I'm talking about in 5-7 years China alone could produce 2-3 times more then the United states. This is not talking about India or any other developing nations getting stood up and people buying cars.

The best thing we could do right now is build nuclear power plants to power our cities. It would be a very good idea. China and the rest of the developing world should follow that. Also we need to stay away from corn or other plants as energy if we went to reduce Co2 into the Atmosphere. Because some studies say that it produces just as much if not more Co2. If your serious about global warming then we must look into that carefully.

Personnaly the nuclear powered city would be able to heat every ones home and cook every ones meals. In which would keep us a float in case the reverse happens. Also the Un IPCC it appears has put out a forecast for .2c a decade. That puts a little more respect in my book. So I'm not going to slam it, but will wait in interest.

By the year 2000 the US was the country with the greatest production of CO2, but I agree that in the future China and India will, most likely, take over.

Interesting that Alaska (with 0.42 persons per sq km) got lumped in with the U.S. totals. The study is 7 years old. It's history.

Huh? Last I checked, Alaska is part of the United States. These figures are by nation.

The last time that I checked Alaska was the 49th state, capital, Juneau.

By the way, that the chart is 7 years old it doesn't mean that it's irrelevant. if we can get one for 2007 it will show that the problem is now worse.

Now thats a much more accurate table. I can go with this one. My point was that Alaska as far as size goes, produces less emissions than other regions of North America.

It is interesting to note that Alaska considers us the "lower 48". There are Alaskans that would like nothing better than to become a sovereign nation.

Seven years is very recent for this type of data. Also, all data of this type is from the past. It's the same as a picture. Every picture you've ever seen is of a past event. Same with collected data.
