Ouch! (car accident)

#1 Postby dizzyfish » Tue Nov 20, 2007 3:01 pm

Well, I had my first automobile accident yesterday on the way home from work. Got hit from behind while I was stopped at a light. :x Fortunately I was back far enough and stood on the brake hard enough that I didn't hit the car in front of me with a baby in back!
I am SOME sore today though. Got a doc appointment for tomorrow morning. Anybody have some good ideas on what I can do to help the aches until then? He has me taking Naproxen - but to be honest it doesn't seem to help much. :(
Can I take Tylenol with Naproxen?

I have a 2003 Toyota Highlander that I bought in July. The bumper is messed up pretty good and the car that hit me went partially under the bumper and hit the tail pipe. They are supposed to come look at it Friday and I will know more then. I'm just hoping the hit to the tail pipe didn't mess up the exhaust system.

Hmm... That doesn't sound TOO bad, but then again it's not my car.

I wouldn't mix Tylenol with anything, honestly. Call your doctor and ask before you do. Or maybe someone here knows.

Motrin.. . I broke my arm near my wrist in a car accident in January. Whatever the doc in emergency room prescribed wasn't working too well and left me dizzy and nauseous. . . But 3-4 Motrin every 8 hrs for the first two days did wonders

Motrin. I think I have some in the medicine cabinet. Gotta give that a try. The naproxen is making me a little icky feeling. Thanks!

I'm so sorry to hear about your accident.

I'd take Tylenol or Ibuprophen and get into a warm bubble bath and just lay there for a while and soak.

Thanks for the gentle hugs Karan! A couple of the kids at school today wanted to give me hugs (they hug the stuffing out of you). I asked them to save them until next week.

I got hit by a car in January. I actually got off pretty lightly, just a few pretty bad bruises and bit of a headache.

Hope you get well soon, and that your car's ok, dizzyfish!

Ouch! Those sore muscles sure do hurt. I hope you'll be feeling normal soon.

I've gotten into tons of accidents. In Pakistan. Where nobody knew how to drive. But they knew what car insurance was.

Naxproxen is an anti-inflamatory, right? Ibuprofen is as well and works well for pain, at least for me.

I'd call the doctor to see what they say. You're going to have to watch what you do for a while. Whip-lash takes a while to heal and even when you've feeling better, it won't take much to make it hurt again.

Bubble baths, heating pads should help. I hope that everything works out well with your car insurance wise and it wasn't worse!

Word of advice, if it still hurts after a few days then go and see a chiropractor. A doctor only gives pills to cover the problem, a chiropractor can work out the injury. It worked for me and my wife when we had seperate injuries.. Mine my neck, hers was her upper back.

Thanks for your concern everyone. I feel a little bit better this morning. I have a doc appointment in about an hour. Seems like the pain/soreness is concentrated in my right shoulder/neck and the left side of my back. Hubby was rubbing my back last night and he said the left side feels hard like it is all knotted up. Feels that way to me too!

Well, hubby is on the way to pick up a scrip for me. Muscle relaxer - outta make cooking tomorrow interesting! LOL Doc is also sending me to therapy for my back. Deep heat therapy I think he called it. Got some muscle spasms happening. Oh well, I'm just thankful it wasn't worse!

Maybe you should make "reservations" for Thanksgiving dinner this year. Or, pick up something.
