Ok, what is th big deal?

#1 Postby angelwing » Fri Nov 23, 2007 12:09 am

For giggles tonight, I drove by 2 best buys, just got home at midnight. THe one had a long line, but considering last years it wasn't that bad, maybe a quarter of a block. Took a ride to another one that's in the burbs and they had TENTS! I never, ever seen people camping out in tents here before for a Black Fridau sale! What's the big item or hot item this year? I'm just curious what people want, the hubby and I couldn't figure out what the deal was, I mean what's worth waiting in line for maybe 7 or more hours in freezing temps??

Ha, I drove by my Best Buy and there were also a huge crowd of tents in the parking lot. I don't know what the hot item is this year but imo it's not worth it, especially with the cold winds we'll be having tonight.

I went to Walmart at 4 AM and there were only 50 people ahead of me. Microwave oven deal turned out to be too small so I just grabbed my usual groceries and was the first one out of Walmart. There was still a line a couple hundred yards long and they had stopped letting people in the store. Ended up buying a microwave online at sears instead. If you have to shop on black friday getting there an hour early will get you through the checkout lines 3 hours earlier.

Best Buy says they anticipate the big demand items to be flat panel tv's, iPod, GPS and notebook computers. And get this.....they are serving coffee and donuts.

Personally I think the camping out overnight thing is a fever caused from purchasing tainted products from China.

Buy American.....if you can find anything.

angelwing - I'm with you on this one. I think for Black Friday shoppers and those that camp out for hours, do it for the experience too. Also to say later what a deal they got on a new TV or DVD player, whatever the item is. They want these bragging rights I guess. Me, I'd rather not fight the crowds, have to camp out, etc. I also don't have to own the latest gadget either - I'm happy with an old VCR that still works - LOL! Yes of course we have a DVR too and also two DVD players but if someone has to have the latest item, I think in their minds they have to wait in line, sometimes camping out to get the best deal.

I like staying home too much to bother with all that hassle! LOL

Doesn't seem that there were as many really good bf deals this year. Nothing that said, "Oh i've got to get that!" I think with the internet, cybermonday will become a much bigger day. I've gone out in the past and found some things but there wasn't anything of interest or of such a good bargain that i HAD to go shopping at the wee hours of the morning. Instead i found a camera online at bestbuy. Originally $250 I got it for $189 plus free shipping. Circuitcity had it online for $224 and after looking around i didn't find it cheaper anywhere else.

It's 10:30am here and my daughter and i are going to leisurely hit some stores. Bombay Company in the mall is closing and i might find something there!

I didn't go out till about 1PM, Staples was out of the SATA drive my hubby wanted, but I ended up getting the 500GB SATA WD for him for $100, I think they mispriced that :D

Ive seen tents in past years here. We have two malls here in the immediate area, and I went to one this evening and it was quite busy, but not as busy as I had thought it would be. No particular stores were more busy than any others.

Funny. I went to the mall on black friday last year and it was pretty close to empty.

I was up in Virginia Beach on Black Friday and saw a news report that said people had started lineing up at Best Buy Thursday morning, thats right Thursday morning. I went to Target and got the very last 22" monitor that I wanted.
