:uarrow: In truth, Accuweather should not exist, but it does. There are ways to shut people up, you know.

Accuweather has all the right to exist, and we also have all the right not to pay attention to what they say.

:uarrow: It has the right, but it shouldn't exist. :P

That being said, we should disregard it.
But that's fairly off topic anyway. Any news on the suit?

We have as much right to say we don't like them as you to say don't read them. Remember the 1st amendment works for everyone and speaking of which only in America anyone can sue anybody for anything. All you need is a lawyer to take the care and there are no lack of those unfortunately.

First, God has nothing to do with this. Second, according to the 1st Amendment, they have all the right to release these forecasts because they directly or indirectly don't harm anyone. Third and final, anyone that fears "anxiety, fear and dread" becuase of these forecasts should get a little more educated and realize that they are mere forecasts and not reality. Please, lets stop bashing these forecasts. If you don't want them, just don't read them. WHAT ABOUT THAT!!!

Hurakan,

Perhaps it's because I worked there, or, perhaps it's because I'm older and have seen more of life than you, but, in truth these erroneous forecasts did upset millions needlessly, and, is why Dr. Frank, Dr. Sheets, and the late Dr. Rosenthal (HRD) all were against the idea when Dr. Gray first began issuing them in the early '80s (thankfully I can say that I know this for a fact - I was standing a few feet from them when they said it)...

They were against the idea, not because they did not want Dr. Gray "to get the credit", but, because they were perhaps wise enough to know that the Earth (and life itself) is far too complex to know what will happen 6, 9 or even 12 months in advance - they also understood that the best they could do was to track a cyclone when one did form, warn those in it's path, and, perhaps get better at very short-term and storm-surge forecasting...

I am glad that the dreaded AccuWeather "bulls-eye" press release of last May was posted in this thread, as an example of what can happen when this type of "disaster forecasting" gets out of hand. I can't image the needless worry this kind of foolish statement placed into the hearts of many elderly Floridians - most who are unable to flee from a landfalling hurricane. As for the First Amendment, as the late Dr. James Kennedy would often say on such issues, we can be sure that the Founding Fathers never intended this God-given opportunity to be abused as it is today...

Over the centuries, wars have started over misinformation, anxiety, fear or dread (I won't even discuss how our current situation overseas started), so, when rumour (in it's various methods or forms) does take hold and creates these emotions, as many here would tell you, that is God's business, because that is how the evil one get's it's power - as FDR once said,

"All we have to fear is fear itself"
