I've always been leery of the telezapper. How well does it work?
The "telezapper" sends a signal down the line that tells the telemarketing computers that the line has been disconnected. Therefore it drops your number from the "call list". The bad thing is that several firms have developed a fix for the telemarketing firms that disregard this signal. Pretty soon the telezappers won't work. :-(

As far as the national "DoNotCall" list, I registered yesterday around 6PM EDT and still haven't received my confirming e-mail. Not a good sign :-(

Thanks for the info Marshall.

I imagine that they were a little overwhelmed with traffic. hehe
I expect they will get it together, and the emails will be coming soon.

Well, since I did mine at work (with my work email address), I can't really say if I've received the email or not. I'll let you all know on Monday.

My mother got two e-mails yesterday... one of them was from yesterday morning, shortly after she went to the website and sent in our information. However, the e-mail didn't show up in her e-mailbox until some time between 9pm and 12 midnight Eastern Time.

Hey Dennis,

I can't wait either!! We have our home phone set up to forward to our cell phone if we are not home or the line is busy. Needless to say, if it is a telemarketer calling, WE PAY FOR THE DANG CALL. Burns me up. It can't go into effect soon enough for me.

Ya know........I was kidding when I said look at how many ppl will be out of work but seriously, I heard on the news tonight that some "10 MILLION" ppl have signed up for this no call list. I "HATES" telemarketers with a passion BUT........sad thing, it's probably the ONLY job these folks can do, it's keeping them off the welfare rolls and now this???? Pretty sad situation indeed!

According to the site, those of us who have registered before 1 July will have to wait until 1 Oct '03, those who register after 1 July will have to wait 3-4 months. I would think with the overwhelming response, this process is gonna take a WHOLE LOT longer!

registered on June 30th....got my confirm. in less than 2 minutes. I sent my sister an e-mail about it and she wrote back and wrote this:

"I signed up for this on April 1st - first day you could! It has improved things."

Has it been around that long but not publiciized?...or is there another one out there? Anybody know?

Some states have started their own No Call Lists at the beginning of the year. The federal no call list has just been available to the public as it was going back and forth through the Senate and Congress before finally being passed by Congress.

Watch out though for people in Mississippi, Missouri, Tennessee, Georgia and Wisconsin because those states have declined to merge with the federal registry. Why? because they do not want to comply with FCC exemptions. They feel that the federal gov't should not interfere with their state legislation. In other words, alot of companies that are exempt from the no call list in those states are not exempt from the federal registry. Which is why people in those states above should go ahead and register with the National No Call List.
