Hi everyone, I'm running in and running out so I can't visit long. But on more than one occasion I have seen this porch topic RIGHT NEXT to that topic on the tragic porch collapse. Thats a SIGN of something. Perhaps someone should take a look at the porch. Maybe the skunks are under there chewing on the wood or something. Of course you wouldn't fall far.

There, that's off my chest.

Tom, I'm not a cranberry fan. But yes, I have heard of the cranberry bogs.

Mary, as for recycling, this is an inserpt from UWGB Housing Recycling program.
:rarrow: You are required and expected to participate in the campus and state recycling program. Specific recycling information is distributed each year.
:rarrow: Recycling bins are located in each building. All containers must be emptied and rinsed clean of food residue contamination before being placed in the recycling bins. Boxes must be flattened before placing in the mixed paper bin. Food contaminated mixed paper such as pizza boxes and restroom type waste paper are not recyclable and must be put in the dumpsters with the regular trash. Fines may result from improper recycling
:rarrow: Revenue earned from the sale of recycled materials is used to offset the cost of collection of recyclables and covers only a small fraction of that cost. You can further reduce costs by recycling only those materials that are acceptable and by recycling only clean materials. Information about what is recyclable is posted near all recycling areas in Residence Life. Please read the information.
See what I mean, we are hard core recyclers!

While on the topic of recycling, people think of printers as some of the most wasteful businesses around.

In reality, we spend a lot of money recycling our film (for silver), our printing plates (for aluminum), or ink (to be reused or fired up at cement plants), and our 6,000 lbs of waste paper(to be made into new paper or corrugated fiber) generated every week.

Here in Scottsdale, I applaud their efforts to help recycling. We have recycle pickup once a week of cans, paper, cardboard, and more. Every few months, they also provide for pickup of old batteries, paint, and some of the more hazardous household waste items.

Shannon - again, I applaud your state's hard-core recycling efforts! Very impressive.

We have a landfill/garbage dump north of Cincinnati. I grew up about in a neighboring suburb. Then moved to an entirely different part of Cincy. Thru the years I heard this dump was growing, growing and just growing. Within oh about 15 or 20 years it was dubbed Mt. Rumpke (company name is Rumpke). I was advised to drive out past it, I'd be shocked it was that big. After it caught on fire a few times and was hard to extinquish (featured on the evening news a lot) I thought I'd go see if for myself. I was indeed shocked. As a teen, there was no mountain beside Rt. 27. Now there was/is. Rumpke just keeps buying more property and nearby residents not in harm's way of the garbage complain of smell (that's a given). One resident refuses to leave her home. She's a second or third generation living in that home. An ancestor built the home with local stones I think. She can see this dump from her backyard. So she's perfect for the news. She says she'll likely die there, she's not selling. It just makes me want to recycle all the more though.

Sorry for that porch tangent folks - I'm allowed one aren't I? he he

You're right Steve about so many wasteful practices in today's society. What about Medical waste? All those plastic gloves.....many restaurants use them now too. One set for each customer in Subway sometimes. That generates a lot of waste.

Ooops, the makings of another tangent.....I'll stop now. Just recyle a little everyone (or a lot if you can, get it - can....bad late night joke!), and I'll pipe down!

Morning everyone --

LOL @ Mary! You are so silly sometimes. And by the way, I did get the joke... but it is Tuesday so maybe that is why. ;)

Pretty uneventful on the front porch this morning. Cloudy here and I do believe it may have rained during the night. I am heading to Springfield for a little while this morning so I won't be back in for a while.

Everyone behave today and I'll check in on ya'll later!

Good Morning!

How's everyone this fine morning? It's 0550 MST, I've been up since 0430........my biological clock goes off at 0400 and I lay there till 0430, WHY SO EARLY SHeeeesh???

Recycling, something this mountain top needs to do, with us being so isolated, it's become cost prohibative, too expense to truck it to Phoenix and points beyond. A gentleman opened up a green waste site this past May, "FINALLY", all the pine needles, branches, thinned trees etc were going to the land fill. Thanks to radical environmentalists, 99.9% of the small log sawmills are out of business, thus no place to take small trees that are thinned. This gentleman has a HUGE, HUGE grinder, I'd venture to say 2 stories high, about the size of a 3- D12 catepiller dozers, he grinds all the logs, pine needles etc into a fine mulch, sells it to a new company that makes garden mulch, talk about a MONEY MAKING business!!! As far as cans, cooper etc, everything still goes to the landfill, pretty sad indeed.

Steve, your company should be given an award for having such a wonderful recycling program! Your paper source in Snowflake "USE" to take the pulp wood (trees smaller than 5" DBH) and grind them up, now......................

Yes, we have become a *disposable society*, use it once, throw it away, I mean, look at the marriages, children that are thrown away, don't like your situation, find someone new..............no wonder Gods sitting on his throne shaking his head.

ANYWAYS......off the soapbox Dennis "LOL!" Looking more and more like the monsoons are JUST about to start, God let's hope so!

Garrett, yes.......Flagstaff IS a wonderful city, NAU, the museums, the history, the shopping (not that I care "LOL" although they DO have a GREAT golf shop there!) If I had to move, Flag would be one of my choices, well..........I don't know, you talk about EXPENSE housing, nuthin' to rent, "IF" you find something to rent, your gonna pay out the nose, a studio apt mind you, goes anywhere from 600-700$ a month!!! One bedrooms go for around 800-900 month PLUS utilities!

Off to read the paper, make it a great day would ya?

Good "almost-lunch-time" everyone! :)

Been having nice warm weather for the last week or so... no rain in sight for the next week. Hope we get some kind of rain soon, we don't want to get into another drought.

How is everyone doing around here? Help yourself to some Lemonade. :)

Evening everyone! :D

What a beautiful first day of July we had here in SW MO. It looked as if it would rain around 4:00 so I jumped out of the pool and ran inside... just a nearly stationary t-storm west of me.

Dennis-- I would think that would be a little expensive. I guess I would just buy a house there then.

Colin, I hope you had a good lunch. ;)

Someone keep Breeze in line this evening, will ya? ;)

Howdy!

WHOA....twice in one day on the porch!

WHERE'S THE MONSOONS? *in a whinning voice* God, it's HOT and SOOOOOOOO flippin' dry! Sitting at 91° at 1700 hrs., we have some pretty decent build up to the east but nuthin' close by, I HOPE this is not one of those years that the nonsoons TEASE us!

Garrett, the *affordable* housing market starts in the upper 100K's and goes up from there, you cannot find a house under 100K, that's even a single wide MOBILE HOME for crips sake!

Well, nuff outta me fer now!

Hey everyone...........good to be back on the porch! There is so much going on! We got back from FSU last night and I am now officially the mother of a college freshman! I was able to get him out of jail on Saturday, however I did leave him in there for about 12 hours to give him some time to think. If we hadn't been scheduled to go to Tallahassee that day, I would have let him stay overnight. I struggle some with "tough love" but I am one of those who really can appreciate the results of it.

I am glad to be back and I am doing alot of praying these days for guidance and relying on my faith that God will handle the things that I have no control over.

God bless you all.........
Sandi :)
Thanks for all your prayers over the last few days, they helped me tremendously!

Sandi, I am glad to hear everything worked out all right. You both are still in my thoughts and prayers.

Dennis -- Looks like I am either going to have to marry a woman with money or take out a huge loan to live there. ;) Maybe I will just stick to SW MO. Oh, do you know if they have a Walgreen's in Flagstaff?

I have to leave this evening and take my sisters halfway to meet their father for the 4th. Then tomorrow evening I leave for a music festival so I will be silent for a few days... can you believe that? :o Me, silent??

Everyone have a great Wednesday!

Great news Sandi. I am glad everything worked out for you. :D

It is getting warm here already - current temp is 69.7° as of 9:02 AM. Add to that some humidity and it feels like Florida. :o

Today I have a doctor's appointment at 4 PM, so I will be on late just so you all know. Don't go worrying about me now OK? :D :P

C you all later. Joshua

So Joshua...*tapping my foot persistently*... was the report good? I hope so. :) Wishing the best for you Wxbuddy.

Hello everyone.

I regularly come here to the "Front Porch" to see what's going on... not much to add.

Sandi, hopefully you son learned his lesson. I wish him luck at FSU. :)

Garrett, I saw some posts by JQ as well... it was indeed nice to see him make an appearance. He is very busy with school I understand... hopefully he will be able to stop by more often soon. :) The only one that I can think of at the moment who hasn't posted much is here, is Eric (Skywatch_NC).

Currently in the mid 70's here. Interestingly, the record low temperature for Orlando for July 2nd is only 68ºF; which is four to six degrees cooler than the general overnight/early morning temperature for the central Florida in early July.

Have a Great Holiday Weekend everyone! :D

Good Morning,

A fine day dawning in the White Moutains, the hum of traffic can be heard from my front porch, I live 1 mile from the main drag here in town, I normally don't hear the traffic but GEEEESH! With temps being the 110's down yonder, can't blame everyone trying to escape the heat, just hope to hell they don't do something STUPID, say like, start a forest fire!

HOT! Man it's been HOT up here to, our friends from Tucson are up for the month, they pulled in yesterday, stepped out the car and said, "This is BS.......we thought it was COOLER up here?" Now coming from someone who lives in the heat, it MUST REALLY be hot! The heat up here IS different than the Valley heat! Unoffical high at the house of 95° with a climbing DP and the RH is on the rise too, could this be a sign of the Monsoons? Naaaaw, just dreaming I guess!

Sandi, so glad your *home*, rest assured, you will remain in our prayers through out time!

Tom......glad to see you stopping by the porch on a regular bases now! WOW.......that is kinda cool for Florida isn't it? What the heck is going on?? Some weird weather indeed.

Well folks, I'm off to the driving range before the MILLIONS of visitors hit! I went yesterday evening, I had to wait over 20 minutes to find a slot, I've NEVER had to wait, OH WELL..........after NO 4th of July celebrations last year at all, the Rodeo Fire was still eatin' up acre after acre, it's GREAT seeing a BUSY weekend!

I brought some juice and Dunkin' Donuts out for the front porch this morning. :)

I hope everyone has a safe and happy Inderpendence Holiday weekend. I won't be back on the front porch until sometime on Sunday. Stay safe everyone!
