Um...I beg to differ with you. One puny splotch of blues and yellows do not signify convection not being nil over the course of the day. I even stated that there was a bit of convection, but not enough to warrant a rating higher than "nill". When I see more than maybe 25% of the circulation with yellows (or for that matter, even blues...) over it, then I'll change my statement. The convection associated with this storm has been so limited, it makes some remnant lows look strong.

What is the right classification for this?

-Tropical cyclone
-Subtropical cyclone
-Extratropical
-Remnant low
-Open wave

IMO, it is either becoming extratropical (quite unusual at 19°N) or subtropical based on its formation...

Yep...its a remnant low, the convection it had is collapsing and dying out.

Is that Olga? The coordinates are wrong... 7.1 N and 83.9 E?

Must be a mistake at SSD. 17L = Olga, so they must have mis-located it or misrepresented it.

Looks like a glitch.

Code: Select all

  12/2030 UTC     7.1N   83.9E    T2.0/2.0              92B  --  Bay of Bengal
  12/2030 UTC     7.1N   83.9E    T2.0/2.0              17L  --  Bay of Bengal

Some of the -removed- here has really depressed me. Olga was not regenerating earlier - it is common for weakening remnant lows to fire transient bursts of weak convection while they spin down. I understand how much y'all in Florida need the rain, but for crying out loud, you need to use common sense!

In this case, those low cloud bands closer to the center are not convection.

Diurnal cycles occur year-round. However, diurnal minimum is not the reason for the weakening convection (please read the actual discussions, Jeremy...).

Especially, remember that IR measures temperature, and so the higher up the clouds are ,the higher the convection appears to be. High clouds are not always convective.

Yep, looks like Olga's gone.

Florida has rain coming this Saturday thanks to a wicked front, so no need for me to wishcast.

I don't think anybody here has been thinking Olga will make it back, just observing that the LLC looks better than it did this morning.

I think, if it keeps the amount of t-storms near the center it has now, it will be just enough for continuing advisories.

I think.

That isn't applicable to Olga. It's a mislabeled fix for 92B.

EDIT: Checking the NCEP Dvorak fix page on the system, it has been too weak to classify since it moved over Hispaniola.

Sure seems like this dead storm has some avid posters. I guess to make sure everyone knows for sure that they are declaring it dead.
Do you mind if I still watch it for a while.

shear is forecast to worsen, but IF it moves toward the GOH conditions aren't forecast to be that bad.
