Fruits and nuts

#1 Postby azsnowman » Fri Dec 14, 2007 6:28 pm

How many here used to get apples, oranges and mixed nuts in their Christmas stockings? I'm sitting here cracking pecans, brazil nuts and hazelnuts and just had a MAJOR flashback to my childhood! I'd wake up Christmas morning, run to the living room and it was like "AWWW MAN....NUTS again!" :ggreen:

Oh yeah, hard candy too! That was OK, of course, it would stick to the inside of the stocking, you'd pull it out and it had TONS of FUZZ on it!

Arkess, I have NO idea when the tradition began but I know it was WAY before my time and I was born in 1959!

It's funny, I don't how many carry this tradition on but the Native Americans are still BIG on it and from my understanding, it was the missionaries who started this with the Natives WAY back in 1880's

I usually get candy - chocolate. :)

I do send out gifts from Harry & David's to my father and his friend Anne in Colorado. Actually, we kind of swap the same kind of gift - a mixture of nuts, dried fruit, cookies and their INFAMOUS Moose Munch! :D

I never heard of this tradition until I met my current husband, he was the one that told me about it, now every Christmas I have to get mixed nuts and a bag of walnuts for him; at my home when I was growing up it was Whitman's Chocolate and I finally found a box yesterday!

I thought this thread was about people! We got fruits and nuts too. And we got to buy gifts for some of them too.

Oh Dennis, I remember that fuzz on the hard candy. Remember the ribbon candy? Yes, the toe of my stocking would have a great big orange then hard candy and nuts then an apple. That stocking always had a new toothbrush, toothpaste, a comb, some new socks, new underwear.
