Child molesters should be committed to mental hospitals for life when they complete their prison sentences. Not to punish them, but to protect the children.

That's exactly right Ed, virtually 100% of child molesters interviewed admit even though they've been through the system, been to classes, therapy that given the chance, they would and DO commit more crimes! It is a mental illness for which there is NO cure! I wish I could pull up some of my old classes on this subject Dionne, it's documented proof!

Yeah, he should be punished, as severely as the law will allow i.e no torture, cutting off eyelids, etc.

Too right. If you want to punish someone properly then killing them is the wrong way to go about it. Locking them up for life gives them a much longer time to think about what they have done and so punish them. Of course if you do kill them and they are later found to have actually been innocent there is no way back.

And in the meantime they're in jail we have to pay for their stay and to keep them alive.

if prisoners here in the USA did not have all of the accessories in prison, maybe prison would be considered more of a suitable punishment.

The prisoners receive cable television, and many other perks that some on the putside cannot enjoy. This is wrong, IMO. I'd rather there be some severe punishment, make it a deterrant. Instead, if one is homeless, there is incentive to go out and commit a crime, just so they can have a place to stay

I agree with this 100%. They should be given the basics, shelter, food, clothing, water, some recreation but that's it. If they want entertainment, perhaps they should read a book instead.

Where did you find the 100% recidivism rate for child molesters? I've looked everywhere and cannot find that statistic. The highest number I found was under 50%. Burglars are the highest.....approaching 70%. I did find some other interesting numbers. For one.....our recividism rate nationally has been on a steady increase for decades. It is over 60%. As for Arizona inmates.....55.3% are non-violent offenders and 77.5% are first time offenders. For western states....Arizonas inmate population is growing at 3 times the average.

This guy y'all are talking about was a known nut case (hearing voices) with a prior history.......and he was released???? The Arizona penal system let this guy walk free while more than half of the states inmates are non-violent!!

The most disturbing statistic found suggested that only 1 out of 3 "sexual offender" crimes are reported to law enforcement.

30 to 40% is the recidivism rate for a 20 year period Hanson, Morton, & Harris, 2003, but that is based on conviction rates, so the actual numbers of re-offenders probably exceeds 50%.
