35º in Spring Branch. We should easily make it below 32º tonight. Definitely going to be the coolest so far this season unless something really strange happens.

Just dropped to 31.7 for "my unofficial" temp at my location. Wandering if Cirrus Clouds could stop the drop a bit over night. Brrrr :cold:

The closest Weatherbug stations to me are reporting 31° and 32° right now. I don't know how long we've been at or below freezing, but it's going to be a long night with freezing temps... just after midnight now.

Btw, here's the Weatherbug/Instaweather stations I use. EWG, that Beaumont report you're giving is actually in Nederland, at the airport. That's south of Beaumont, closer to the coast.

You can check on temps in the area on here. I'm close to the Jefferson and Hardin County line.
http://www.kfdm.com/sections/weather/instaweather/

To give you an idea of where those are, Roy Guess, Field ES, and Marshall are in North Beaumont. Odom Academy, Lamar University, and Price ES dots are in South Beaumont. Helena Park and Hillcrest are in Nederland. Lamar State College is in Port Arthur.

Anyhow, it's chilly out there!

As of 6am, IAH is sitting at 31F, Hooks at 30F and Conroe at 28F. I am hovering back and forth between 28.6-29.3F on my thermometer. With another hour to an hour and a half worth of cooling, I think another degree could easily be shaved off a few of these readings...and this is by far the coldest morning of the season!

I just went outside and took a look around and found a nice, thick coat of frost on most objects. Also, I did notice a few high clouds overhead and I believe those are what saved us from an even worse freeze. If they had not moved in, then IAH would have easily reached the 20s and Conroe could have been into the middle 20s. These high clouds also helped keep my temperature stable in the 28.5-29.5F range since 4:30am and unless we see a break in them, I don't think we will be able to fall much further this morning.

Spring Branch area managed a 29º reading this am. Definitely the coolest of the season so far and by far the longest time below freezing since we went below freezing before midnight and are now at 30.6º. Looks like a decent warm up to more normal temps for the rest of the week.

For those wondering about the next possible freeze date. It looks like the GFS is trying to pinpoint next Monday morning (Christmas Eve) as a candidate... http://www.nco.ncep.noaa.gov/pmb/nwprod/analysis/namer/gfs/06/images/gfs_ten_174l.gif

We bottomed out in north Austin at 31 degrees ... but we did get a trace of snow last night!

(ok, I'm kidding about the last part  )

Good News: only 32F for a low here - thank you clouds!!
Bad News: Looks like it was at freezing long enough to zap my banana trees. That's a bummer for sure!

I bet!

I'm sure you all were colder being closer to the high center than we were in south central Texas. Bergstrom Airport showed a low of 22 degrees but its temperature gauge is sometimes very ... shall I say ... peculiar. Most of the city had lows 30-32 degrees.

Well I just tested my "looks like snow" statement by going outside and making a "frost man". He was small, but indeed there was enough frost on two cushioned outdoor chairs to create three small snowballs capable of creating a 6" tall "frost man". Now it is time to see how long the "frost man" lasts before melting. lol.

Showing those Ohio roots again with the avatar??

How would you have liked to have been at that Brown/Bill game yesterday?

I'd have a blast. :froze:

When I got up. we were at 37 (might be too high) here in NW Corpus with thick coat of frost on the grass and roof tops. If that doesn't put my grass to rest for a month or two, I don't know what would. I'm guessing we got near or below freezing for a few hours overnight.

What's up with the pattern? A few weeks ago, many of our long-range progonsticators were calling for a cold blast or two in the beginning of December, then an extended period of "blowtorch" warmth for the rest of the winter. But after reading Jeff's email it looks like a few more blasts of cold are on the way.

yeah, and donsutherland1's latest update seems to indicate continued near or below normal temperatures for the southern plains as well.

May be the "warm winter" idea is going to end up being wrong after all?
