NO! No snow for the gulf coast! Last time that happened and snow accumulated the gc was slammed by 2 horrific hurricanes. Not that I got any accumulation (but i didn't get slammed by either hurricane). I'd be happy for some flurries though :cheesy:

Well it has been changing back and forth but again today shows possible snow for January 2nd 3rd time frame...One important thing to note is on every run of the GFS the subtropical jet is very active with shortwaves moving along the south...the southeast will be very unsettled this winter...

The more rain down here the better. Hopefully we can keep off those drought predictions here in Fl and move away from the drought in the rest of the SE.

I'll believe it when I see it falling from the sky. 8-)

I thought I was the only one that noticed that coincidence. My 99 year old grandmother told me that Christmas in 2005 when it snowed that we would have a very bad hurricane. She said to prepare. She died just before Katrina. When Katrina hit I was shocked but at least it wasn't here like she thought..................................30 days later a direct hit from Rita. :(

I've always been like a kid at the thought of seeing snow and now it terrifies the hell out of me. If it does snow, I'll be packing up my newly rebuilt house. LOL

Please post several consistent runs that indicate frozen precipitation within <100 hours. That's my challenge.

Needless to say I'm taking these long-range runs with a huge grain of salt.

Personally, I think the correlation between Gulf coast snowfall and TC strikes is an illusion, aberration, and a myth.

Well I have hope ivanhater! It's not like it's unheard of, we've had plenty of deep south wintery systems in recent years and it's usually early-mid January when it occurs.

White Horse, CA, weather.

Joe Bastardi mentioned in last day or two that White Horse is usually colder than this (not that -15ºC is warm) for a real Arctic outbreak down in the US.

Call it what you want but I was out in the snow and 9 months later I lost my home. Yes, it's very rare indeed but certainly not an illusion by any means of the imagination. I was here!

Now, please lighten up. It was stated in the original post that it would probably change several times over the next 10 days but was cool to see. No one here said that it was etched in stone and frankly most here in the deep south find it a bit exciting and funny because of it being such a rarity IF it were to pan out.

That is the 850mb freezing line..not the surface freezing line..but yes, even still that would be quite an event. It is not often that the 850mb temperature falls to 0C or below over Miami and Key West.
