Dr. Gray becomes the NHC’s new chief (joke)
12/28/07 10:00 ET
Dr. Gray becomes the NHC’s new chief
"His experience makes him the best option," says Avila.
By Menty Rozzo / Tempestes News
This year was an stormy one for the National Hurricane Center due to the last director’s disclosures of internal problems. The argument reached its crescendo when the employees of the storm center decided that it was time for their boss to move on.
During most of the hurricane season the center was under the acting director, Ed Rappaport. Rappaport has been a member of the staff of scientists for many years and it’s regarded to be one of the most experienced. Nonetheless, the job of director of the hurricane center was given to another scientist, Dr. William Gray.
Dr. Gray, 76, worked for many years for the University of Colorado and its considered to be one of the leading scientist in the field of forecasting. Over the past two decades Gray and his group of scientists of the University of Colorado have made very accurate forecasts even months before the beginning of the hurricane seasons.
At the beginning of this month Dr. Gray announced that he was stepping back and leaving Dr. Philip J. Klotzbach as the head director of the group's hurricane forecasts. This seemed to open the door for the famed scientist to become the director of the National Hurricane Center. "His experience makes him the best option," says Avila.

What does the other Frank (Frank Burns) often say in the television program MASH, when his leg is being pulled?
"You guys!"
P.S. I'm going to call the NHC right now...
LOL

Re: Dr. Gray becomes the NHC’s new chief
Excuse me for being a party pooper, but this could quickly lead to trouble with real persons' names listed in this joke. Storm2k has a reputation for being a place where people can find out facts, most of the time, and this is not anywhere close to being a fact. While I appreciate humor and love the idea of spoof headlines, I just think that this thread needs some kind of "gotcha!" before people take it and run with it.
Afterall, TWC used some fake recon message from here a number of years ago. Anyone remember that?
Just be careful.

It's just a joke, nothing more. Moreover, I didn't say anything bad about the persons of which the real names were used (Dr. Gray, Avila, Rappaport, and Dr. K). I exalted their work and in some cases, the writing improves their public oppinion.
"Menty Rozzo" is not a real name. Comes from the Spanish word, "mentiroso" which means liar.
"Tempestes News" doesn't exist. "Tempestes" is the Roman god of storms! Seemed appropiate!!
As with all my "Dia de los Inocentes" jokes, no offence is intended.

You're missing the point, HURAKAN. The point is there should be more of a clearer warning before someone actually spreads this as real.

But it's NOT blindingly obvious to the non-Latin community. That's the point. I can take a joke, and I fell for it, but almost told others that Gray had been appointed, as I had no idea until someone mentioned it was a joke. This could have gotten out of hand.

I clicked on it yesterday, and did not get it. I thought, in fact, that you had copied and pasted the wrong link.
