It's HERE...Winter Storm Warning in effect

#1 Postby azsnowman » Mon Jan 07, 2008 7:15 am

After 28 hours of winds gusting to near 50 MPH, 1.83" of warm rain falling on top of a 10" snowpack causing major flooding here in town, the SNOW is finally here! At 0500 MST, I have 3" of snow already (considering the snow didn't start until 0410 hrs.)...could see a major dump out of this one Visibility is down to less than 50 yards...that's judging by the street light at the end of the road (it's still dark). And the helluva of it is, it's a HEAVY, HEAVY wet snow, the kind that breaks trees and power lines! Could be a VERY interesting day to say the least :ggreen:

I've picked up 7" of snow since 0500 this morning, it's 0945 hours MST. I just looked at the radar and there's a significant band heading this way! Winds sustained at 21 MPH with gusts to near 34 MPH according to the RAWS here...pretty dicey!

Hi Dennis. Whiteout there at Sunrise at times. I keep checking the webcams. Quite the ski season for the folks up there, and since it is still raining here in Phoenix at noon, you have at least several hours of pretty deep moisture heading your way!

Enjoy it and be safe!

I only heard one rumble about 0800 this morning.

Steve, it took me 43 MINUTES to go 6 miles from the police dept to home a few minutes ago due to TOTAL whiteout conditions. This is THE wettest snow I've seen in EONS, it's snowing SO hard that ADOT cannot keep up with it...it appears they've quit for awhile. Heard on the local radio stations that most businesses are now closed and we (the PD) is advising the others to close! It's NUCKIN' FUTZ out there for sure :ggreen:

Yes...this is VERY rare! Back in Oct., all predictions for the Southwest were of a dry, warm winter. As I stated in another thread, I'm at 62" already and the heaviest snow months are yet to come! I don't understand what's happening but I'll tell ya what, I am in NO WAY, shape or form complaining! After suffering 13 years of exceptional drought conditions, this is MUCH welcomed, much NEEDED precip! Now...if it will just continue :ggreen:
