Houston, we have a problem!!!

GDP (purchasing power parity):
GWP (gross world product): $65.96 trillion (2006 est.)

Not even the entire planet's economy would be even close enough to pay this person.

Code: Select all

Rank Country GDP (purchasing power parity)  Date of Information
1 World  $ 65,960,000,000,000  2006 est.
2 European Union  $ 13,080,000,000,000  2006 est.
3 United States  $ 13,060,000,000,000  2006 est.
4 China  $ 10,210,000,000,000  2006 est.
5 Japan  $ 4,218,000,000,000  2006 est.
6 India  $ 4,164,000,000,000  2006 est.
7 Germany  $ 2,632,000,000,000  2006 est.
8 United Kingdom  $ 1,928,000,000,000  2006 est.
9 France  $ 1,902,000,000,000  2006 est.
10 Italy  $ 1,756,000,000,000  2006 est.

(3 x 10^15) - (6.596 x 10^13) = 2.93404 x 10^15

Sorry, we can't!

...but it could also be interpreted as a sad sign of Katrina's legacy.

That is hilarious. Guy probably wants to bring attention to the issue at hand, and this is a great way to do it. Now, I actually believe that the total sum of the inflation adjusted GWPs stretching back until the last time there was no monetary unit would probably not have as great a value as 3 quadrillion dollars.

...or a combination of greed and bad math.

Katrina was an absolute catastrophe, but come on man, $3 quadrillion?

That's beyond rediculous.

I agree. That "sad" fact reflects the current situation of some people after the event. It shows the degree of despair some people have experienced in the years after the event.

The size of Katrina was too overwhelming for modern technology.
Once winds exceed 60+ and the wind field expands over a large
area widespread major damage becomes likely and inescapable.
Katrina had a very large area of 75-100 mph winds, an inner
circle of 100-150 mph and a core of
150-175 while over the GOM, but the area of the winds contributed
to the surge. The size of Katrina made it's storm surge at least a category 5.
