ETA: I like this format. Can we do this next year??

ok, most of these winners . . . I have no clue who they are . . .

This is SO much better than the usual overhyped, boring, and long drawn out event. Please keep it up. :D

and yes, I've never heard of most of these people either. Thank God the TV show awards are coming.

And it is always for shows/movies I haven't seen. . En Vie La Rose, for example, would be shown at the smaller theater if ever came to the Triangle area. But then again, I probably would have never seen it anyway. Pan's Labyrinth and The Orphanage filled my foreign-language film quota this year (ok, it helped it being shown at bigger theaters) Good movie, The Orphanage, btw.. .

The actual press conference is on TV Guide Channel. NBC apparently had a temper tantrum and is doing their own thing. . I prefer the actual news conference . . .

YAH!! Johnny Depp won!!!

Terminator: "The Sarah Connor Chronicles" wasn't good in my eyes. It's nothing like the movies. The excitement of the Terminator chasing after Sarah and John wasn't there. Not to mention a load of other issues. Typical made for TV movies.

Whoa......don't tell me. But that's big news isn't it? Wonder if the strike has something to do with this leak?

It probably was just for promotion of the show. Rumor is that the TPTB leaked Bionic Woman, Pushing Daisies, The Reaper, The Sarah Connor Chronicles and Dexter to create "buzz" for the shows.

Well the revamped Golden Globes were a disaster in the ratings. I'm not that surprised since it aired on CNN, E! and TV Guide also.

But something has got to be done. The Oscars next month can't be reduced to what happened last night. NBC went from a huge week last week to crashing and burning at the end of this week.

I think there will be a lot pressure on the WGA to allow writers work on the show, especially if the DGA comes to an agreement with the AMPTP soon. NBC may have been hit badly, but I think the WGA took a huge hit too with the public and within the WGA. The moderates in the union sound like they are getting upset about the trash talk between the WGA and AMPTP. It will get worse if the DGA/AMPTP talks end civilly with a deal.

Because of the apparent, optimistic, movement in the DGA/AMPTP talks, there will be a third straight day of talks.

This could be the beginning of the end of the writers strike.

If we start a prediction thread for the next decade, I predict all movie rental stores will go out of business.

Huh? The WGA was willing to compromise, but the AMPTP walked away from the table -- twice.

Why go to the movie rental store, when all you have to do is go Netflix (you can stream UNLIMITED amount of movies) or rent movies from iTunes. With the Apple TV 2.0 , you now can rent the movie from iTunes and watch on your widescreen TV ( if you have a computer hooked up to the TV via VGA/DVI to DVI/HDMI cable you could watch streamed movies from Netflix and Unabox).

Whatever. I'm too tired to argue. I certainly know that if this strike doesn't end soon, the WGA is going to be torn apart.

The Academy Awards will be denied a waiver if they ask for one, according to the president of WGA West.

I think the WGA moderates might be ticked off about this. . . Talking about burning your bridges, I think WGA will be burning a few within the union and outside.

DGA talks head into fifth day
By Carl DiOrio

Wednesday will mark Day 5 of negotiations between the DGA and the Alliance of Motion Picture & Television Producers.

The parties met into the evening Tuesday, aiming to hash out a new contract to replace a directors pact set to expire June 30. The negotiations were said to be going well, and an agreement could be announced almost any day now.

No details have been released on any of the bargaining sessions, which began Saturday, but insiders said that negotiations would resume Wednesday morning.

The manner in which the parties have been marking quiet progress in their talks -- which were preceded by weeks of informal discussions between reps of the organizations -- stands in stark contrast to the WGA's ongoing contract impasse. Once a DGA deal is announced, the big question will be whether the striking writers will embrace any of its terms as a template for their own new contract.

Hollywood writers have been out of contract since Oct. 31 and walking picket lines since Nov. 5. Their last bargaining session with the AMPTP was Dec. 7.

Striking Writers Head for the Internet

Today was the deadline for proposals for Strike TV, a new online channel that striking members of the WGA are setting up. The site, which will live on the United Hollywood Website, will feature original video shorts and shows created by "working professionals" in the TV and film biz, and is set to launch in February.

OnlineMedia.com reported that the new channel's designed not only to showcase what the striking professionals are made of — without the studios — but also to raise ad revenue that will go to the Writers Guild Foundation Industry Support Fund. Strike TV's MySpace page emphasizes that proposals should be for fresh material that shows off creatvitiy and avoids any nasty legal hassles.

Will Strike TV remain a political statement, or morph into something bigger? And who will be some of the first contributors? No one's revealed that so far, but my money's on some of the brightest brains in town, whose work we're already missing. Who's your money on? — Anna Dimond
