...NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DAMAGE SURVEY CREW DETERMINES EF-2
TORNADO IN NORTHEAST SHELBY COUNTY AND SOUTHEAST TIPTON COUNTY
TENNESSEE...

That was the first tornado. The tornado that caused fatalities occurred a little later and further SE in Shelby County. It looks likely EF2 or EF3 too though.

"STORM STRENGTH WAS AT LEAST AN EF 2."

Does that mean they are going to review it more later and try to determine if it was indeed stronger, or just leave it as an EF 2?

:uarrow: Probably just an initial estimate; they're going to go out and check it at some point.

I'm sure it was much stronger so they will probably go and do additional surveys. I expect it to be at least EF3.

Yep, and considering surveys are still underway, I think it will inch closer, but not quite get there.

Well, this event all ready blows the January event out of the water: more reports, TWO EF-4s and SIX EF-3s SO FAR. January had no EF-4s and only eight 3s.

Jackson got hammered: three tornadoes in a family, two 3s one 4.

More will surely come.

When will the tornado track maps be released?

Given the vast number of reports and the amount of damage caused, it will probably be at least a week or two before a track map is released.

I don't exactly see that, I just see "at least EF3".

I think this is what he is looking at.

THERE SOME CASES WHERE HOMES WERE SWEPT OFF OF THEIR FOUNDATIONS...
INCLUDING AT LEAST ONE BRAND NEW HOME. THERE WERE TWO INSTANCES
WHERE PEOPLE WERE LOOKING FOR THEIR VEHICLES. THE VEHICLES WERE
THROWN FOR A DISTANCE AND COULD NOT BE FOUND. THERE WERE THREE
FATALITIES IN VAN BUREN COUNTY.

A QUICK RESPONSE TEAM WILL LIKELY BE ASKED TO VIEW THE DAMAGE TO
DETERMINE IF THE RATING COULD BE HIGHER THAN EF3.

Ok, that seems less exciting than "EF-4 or EF-5". :uarrow:

It's important to note that a lot of these fatalities are not coming from mobile homes, but permanent residences. That's scary..

I talked to my Uncle in Nesbit, MS (30 miles S. of Memphis). He said The northern parts of Memphis as well as the western parts have widespread damage.

Those suggest very strong tornadoes, at least EF3 if not stronger for most of them.

The northern part had a separate EF2 tornado that had a 25 mile path.

We talked to relatives who live 10 miles south of Mountain View AR. My cousin had just returned from Mountain View when the tornado hit there. My relatives have no damage but are without power. No idea when power will be restored.

As far as damage goes, it is pretty widespread in Mountain View. We heard that the Chevy dealership is gone and the hospital is heavily damaged. I will be anxious to hear what the rating is on that tornado that hit Mountain View.
