As far as damage goes, it is pretty widespread in Mountain View. We heard that the Chevy dealership is gone and the hospital is heavily damaged. I will be anxious to hear what the rating is on that tornado that hit Mountain View.

That sounds like about EF3.

I would not be surprised if it was EF3 damage.

I actually found some video of the damage in Mountain View. It's just unbelievable. Here's the link: http://www.kait8.com/global/category.asp?c=4391

I graduated from high school with Diana Davis, one of the anchors at KAIT 8.

They are sending Quick Response Teams to that area tomorrow to find out more. I'm sure at least one tornado up there was EF4 at least (and probably the best chance for an EF5 out of this).

A girl my mom went to high school with had her family's house destroyed and also her parent's home destroyed (they were next to each other) near Clinton, AR. Sadly her mom was among one of the fatalities in Van Buren County.

Some of those ratings are subject to change - i.e. the Clinton, AR EF3 (QRT to visit tomorrow) and the NE Nashville area EF2 (almost certain to rise).

The fatality in Fayette County, TN was from a tornado. An EF3 at that.

...DAMAGE SURVEY DETERMINES EF-3 TORNADO ACROSS FAR NORTHERN FAYETTE
COUNTY...

THE INITIAL TORNADO TOUCHDOWN OCCURRED NEAR AKIN ROAD ABOUT 3 MILES
SOUTHEAST OF HEBRON OR 3 MILES SOUTHEAST OF EXIT 42 OFF OF
INTERSTATE 40 AROUND 625 PM CST. THE TORNADO DOWNED NUMEROUS
LARGE TREES AND SEVERAL POWER LINES AS IT HEADED NORTHEAST.

ONCE THE TORNADO APPROACHED YUM YUM ROAD...IT DESTROYED A SHED...
KILLING A MAN THAT WAS SITTING IN A PICKUP TRUCK INSIDE THE SHED.
THE TORNADO THEN CONTINUED NORTHEAST TWISTING AND DOWNING TREES
BEFORE LIFTING AROUND 627 PM CST.

THE PATH LENGTH OF THIS TORNADO WAS ABOUT 2 MILES. THE MAXIMUM
WIDTH WAS 500 FEET. THE HIGHEST ESTIMATED WINDS WERE AROUND 140 MPH.

A TORNADO WARNING WAS IN EFFECT FROM 601 PM CST TO 645 PM CST FOR
FAYETTE COUNTY. A TORNADO WATCH WAS IN EFFECT AS WELL.

That makes 56 tornado deaths. I'm surprised it was an EF3, it takes a lot less to destroy a shed (an EF1 would be enough in most cases). Must have been due to the tree damage.

Our daughter (Courtney) is coming home. She is (was ?) a graduate student at the university. She had just moved to Jackson, TN. after receiving her BFA at USM Hattiesburg, MS. The tornado(s) have clearly upset her. She mentioned several times that the winds were much stronger than Katrinas winds. There is an EMT/firefighter out there somewhere (we don't even know his name) that found her and literally carried her into a nearby basement. She has admitted to a few "small cuts and bruises". She jokingly suggested we move back to Alaska where our biggest concerns were earthquakes and avalanches. Somehow, I don't think she was joking.

Knowing her unfortunate luck, what will happen then, maybe a repeat of the Good Friday earthquake (9.2) when she gets there? Thank God she is safe though!

Another EF-3 confirmed, 93 (reports) - 35 - 4 - 11 - 8 - 10 - 2 - 0.

Does it usually trickle slowly like this?

It's trickling slowly because the damage, which is widespread and quite bad is still being assessed. This is evident when one looked at the SPC reports, which shows the staff were literally being inundated and were mixing reports up which is understandable. I think I saw a report of over 1,000 severe TS/tor watches and warnings put up during this event.

I'm so sorry for your daughter. She's obviously been through a traumatizing event and my condolences to your family and her.

Sometimes it does, especially this time for the reason wbug1 gave above. The offices are/were overwhelmed. During the outbreak the Memphis office had to take shelter and stop issuing warnings for a short time. Damage around here that ordinarily would have been mentioned in LSR didn't even for some reason. In my town there is roof damage to several buildings and a lot of tree damage.. On top of that storm and last weeks crazy wind storm this has definitely been the worst weather we've had locally since I can remember.
