surprise thunder snow in Denver

#1 Postby PTPatrick » Sat Feb 02, 2008 11:23 am

Last night was crazy. We had a 10 percent chance of snow as they NWS though the snow would all fall south of here. MY friend and I were walking around an art walk and it all the sudden clouded up and I felt a pretty strong NE wind. At that point I was like, "its cold, lets go, I think it may be about to snow". within 10 minutes I heard the first lightening strike and the heavens opened up with about 2 inches of graupel and snow in 1 hour...there were at least 5 lightening strikes and rumbles of thunder in that hour as well. And the funny thing...it stopped just as quick as it started and the the skies were COMPLETELY clear in less than another hour. Now I know thundersnow isnt really rare in Denver. But going from clear skies to thundersnow to clear skies in a period of 2 hours IS quite rare.

My friend who lives in Denver told me about that. They too mentioned how weird it was.
