No, those are just clouds in the general shape of a tornado...

No need for us in Houston to worry about what's happening up north. Take a look at the increasing strength of the southern end of that squall line. THAT's what we need to worry about. Whhoooooo hooooo!!!

^This thread is for all storms though, so the storms north of Houston can still be discussed.

But the squall line really is increasing in intensity so the worst is probably yet to come.

My intention was not to stifle conversation about the entire storm; merely pointing out that it has yet to begin in the Houston metro area.

Looks like the main threat is going to be wind and hail. The cold front just pushed through Katy. Temp went from 71 to 62 in 3 min and still dropping. Yet, no thunderstorms yet.

There is still a tornado threat east of the cold front, especially with those storms Northeast of Houston.

Upwards of 4 inch per hour rain rates in Rusk County, impressive.

But storms in the warm sector, that could have been tornadic, were few and far between. The cap basically held, and most of the storms are post-frontal.

Very true. We can thank the low clouds for the cap staying around.

Temp dropped suddenly here when it came through too. I don't know the exact timing since I was inside. Now at 51ºf here at the house. Waiting for the storms to arrive. Looks like it could get a little nasty, but not nearly as bad as was originally expected I hope. Weather underground radar has shown at least one very shortlived tvs signature to our NW between I-10 and 290. I hope it was an anamoly on the radar since it was so quickly gone.

Well shoot. The Bear Creek Dome holds again. We got less than a garden-variety storm. What a bust.

I wonder if there is a vice versa factor as well. It always seems like low clouds are slow to erode when the cap is stronger in the morning. At least around here.

CONCERNING THE SEVERE THREAT...A 100 KT MID-LEVEL JET OVER THE MID
MS VALLEY WILL MOVE NEWD ACROSS THE TN AND OH VALLEYS CREATING
STRONG VERTICAL SHEAR PROFILES ACROSS THE REGION. LIFT WILL BE
ENHANCED FROM THE RIGHT REAR QUADRANT OF THE JET ACROSS THE TN
VALLEY AND THIS ALONG WITH THE STRONG SHEAR WILL SUPPORT A SEVERE
THREAT WITH THE SQUALL-LINE. FORECAST SOUNDINGS AHEAD OF THE
SQUALL-LINE THIS AFTERNOON SHOW IMPRESSIVE LOW-LEVEL SHEAR PROFILES
WITH ABOUT 50 KT AT 850 MB AND RESULTANT 0-1 KM SHEAR VALUES AROUND
30 KT. THIS SHOULD BE FAVORABLE FOR TORNADOES WITH SUPERCELLS AHEAD
OF THE LINE AND PERSISTENT ROTATING STORMS EMBEDDED IN THE LINE. IF
SUPERCELLS INITIATE EAST OF THE SQUALL-LINE...THEN AN ISOLATED
STRONG TORNADO OR TWO MAY OCCUR ACROSS SRN AND CNTRL AL.
A POTENTIAL
FOR WIND DAMAGE AND HAIL WILL LIKELY EXIST AT THE BEGINNING OF THE
PERIOD AND PERSIST THROUGH THIS EVENING AS THE SQUALL-LINE ADVANCES
EWD ACROSS THE REGION. THE SEVERE THREAT SHOULD BE GREATEST ACROSS
SRN AND CNTRL AL IN THE EARLY TO MID AFTERNOON WHEN INSTABILITY WILL
BE MAXIMIZED WITH THE THREAT CONTINUING EWD INTO WRN GA BY EARLY
THIS EVENING.
