Eveningtimes is writing about SUPER STORM: Strongest winds for 20 years on the way
SCOTLAND will be battered by a "super storm" early next week with ferocious winds of up to 80mph.
Widespread structural damage is expected, and Scots are being advised not to make unnecessary journeys.
Forecasters are warning that storms hitting across the UK could be the worst since October 1987. Although parts of Northern Ireland and the south west of England should bear the brunt of the extreme weather, Scotland will be badly affected.

The Met Office warned that the UK would suffer very strong, potentially damaging winds, with the Strathclyde area facing severe gales.

Re: Low over the North Atlantic Ocean Emma Gabi Helga
The Met Office is expecting an intense low pressure system to move east across the UK during Monday 10 March, bringing severe gales and potentially damaging gusts across some areas. Southerly winds are expected to strengthen during the first part of Monday but then turn westerly later. Gusts of 60 to 70mph are expected but there is a possibility of 80mph gusts over exposed coasts and hills. Much depends on the exact track of the low centre but at this stage, parts of Wales and the southern half of England are considered at greatest risk. Disruption could occur to transport and power supply networks and there may be damage to buildings. This warning will be updated around 1030 on Saturday 8 March 2008.

This very deep low pressure system will develop just tomorrow.
Jet 300hPa (Sunday)

GFS 500 hPa from Sunday 00:00z to Monday 06:00z

"Cold air moving out of Canada will create a strong
north-south thermal gradient and 200 knot plus jet. A
surface wave will phase in with the left exit of this jet and
give explosive deepening - of order 25-30 mb in 6 hrs in
eastern Atlantic on Sunday. Running into a pre-existing
low pressure complex, exceptionally low pressure is
realised in the UK sector, GFS, ECMWF operational
(DT00Z) and Arpege generating central pressures down
into 930's of hPa by 24Z Sun west of UK - the low fills
somewhat as it comes SE, and the gradients overland
generated by the GM are not exceptional - 60 to 65 knots
adjusted level 6 winds."
Met Office
