NEW YORK - A crane mounted to the side of a skyscraper under construction toppled with a roar Saturday, smashing into a block of apartment buildings, killing at least four people and setting off a scramble for survivors in the rubble.
The collapsing crane demolished parts of several buildings on Manhattan's East Side, appeared to have pulverized one small, brick apartment building, and sent up a huge dust cloud over the neighborhood.
Fire Department officials told NBC News that at least four people were dead and several others were taken to hospitals. An intensive, but delicate rescue operation was under way to free anyone still trapped in the rubble.

Re: Deadly crane collapse into NYC apartment buildings
I thought it was really wrong for Fox news to air the footage of the body bags on the side of the road from the copter cam, what if there are family members watching? Does the media ever think about people other than themselves?
Anyways, thoughts and prayers to the families and those injured. Hopefully this is as high as the number of deaths will get. Seeing the firefighters digging around in the rebel for people brings back memories of 9/11.

Definitely prayers going out for all affected by this.
When I was in NYC in April 2002 the same thing happened a few blocks from my hotel, but there were no fatalaties and only minor damage. I am wondering how often this happens in NYC or elsewhere since we don't often hear news of these things.
