Is This Normal?

#1 Postby Evil Jeremy » Tue Mar 18, 2008 9:02 am

I know that we are months away from the hurricane season starting, but I was wondering if it is normal for clusters of moisture to be coming off of the African coast this early in the year.

EJ, I wonder the same thing..wasn't it in 2004 when a rare t/c hit Brazil?..I think it spun off one of these low-rider clusters of low pressure

Cyclone Catarina developed off the Brazilian coast and had nothing to do with African waves. It was fairly southerly (in fact, the southern-most region of Brazil), not near the north of the country above the equator.

Not uncommon at all. The ITCZ is starting its northward trek again. The end of March is near and the waters will start to warm and shear will start to drop once April gets here.
