STS Forming?

#1 Postby Frank2 » Wed Apr 16, 2008 7:47 am

I was surprised to see the fast-moving radar echos east of Florida this morning, and, apparently they are part of this low-pressure system northeast of the Bahamas...

it almost seems to be separate from the frontal trough as it moves ESE...

Its not tropical. Its not subtropical. The waters are too cold. The air is too cold.

Thanks - windy enough for a gale warning, however:

P.S. I wouldn't say too cold, however - water temps off South Florida are in the upper 70s, so, often a STS has formed elsewhere with similar temps...

I started a thread on this, which I put in USA Weather, titled "Hybrid System of SE Coast" because a couple of models suggested this might become somewhat non-frontal, and a few even suggested a slightly less than cold core, which I have titled (but haven't copywrighted, yet) a "lukewarm core".

I didn't put it into tropical weather because it seemed the odds of TC or sub-TC development were a little too low.

Not tropical, not subtropical, not going to be tropical, not going to be subtropical.

*sigh* it's going to be a long season.

You know what I changed my mind, has anyone seen the latest RaZr run? It's taking this thing fully tropical in 3 days.

Good Observation, but IMO ssts too cold.
But it is a fascinating cold core low. I'd say it's a pretty good
catch.

Maybe it'll become 'lukewarm core'.

I've never heard that term used. Is it even a term? And what exactly is it?

I'm going to hazard a guess and say it was a joke.

Let's not have another season where every discussion is criticized, eh?

I invented the term 'lukewarm core'.

I should copywright it, and make a nickel every time someone uses it.

Yeah there is a low level circulation present but I'd be surprised if it has any tropical features...still a nice little practice run for the real thing that will be preseent soon enough!

Impressive!

Tropical? In our dreams, but still, a very, VERY nice low!

It's drifting into a small area of warmer (but not warm) SST. Will be fun to watch and see if it anything happens before moving over colder waters again.

anything = anything, not tropical development.

This can't get any more extra-tropical than what it is already  , long ways from even getting to subtropical status, but interesting that the euro leaves it meandering around for the next 5 days or so, maybe a better chance by then.
