Possible TD soon in ATL?

#1 Postby weatherlover427 » Sun Jul 06, 2003 11:16 am

TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS TPC/NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER MIAMI FL
1130 AM EDT SUN JUL 6 2003

FOR THE NORTH ATLANTIC...CARIBBEAN SEA AND THE GULF OF MEXICO...

A SMALL BUT VIGOROUS TROPICAL WAVE IS CENTERED ABOUT 650 MILES EAST OF THE WINDWARD ISLANDS AND IS MOVING WESTWARD AT 15 TO 20 MPH. THIS SYSTEM HAS BECOME BETTER ORGANIZED SINCE YESTERDAY AND A TROPICAL DEPRESSION COULD FORM DURING THE NEXT DAY OR SO. AN AIR FORCE RESERVE RECONNAISSANCE AIRCRAFT IS SCHEDULED TO INVESTIGATE THE SYSTEM MONDAY AFTERNOON...IF NECESSARY.

A TROPICAL WAVE INTERACTING WITH AN UPPER-LEVEL LOW IS PRODUCING WIDESPREAD CLOUDINESS AND SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS OVER THE NORTHWESTERN CARIBBEAN SEA AND ADJACENT LAND AREAS. THIS WEATHER ALSO EXTENDS NORTHWARD OVER THE SOUTHEASTERN GULF OF MEXICO AND PORTIONS OF THE FLORIDA PENINSULA. HOWEVER...THERE IS NO EVIDENCE OF A SURFACE LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM AND TROPICAL CYCLONE DEVELOPMENT IS NOT EXPECTED AT THIS TIME.

ELSEWHERE...TROPICAL STORM FORMATION IS NOT EXPECTED THROUGH MONDAY.

Yeah... I posted the highlights of that in another topic here. Time will tell I guess...

Thought I'd post it in its own thread since it bears watching. :)

Thanks Joshua for the info. I have been keeping a close eye on that area since last night. It has held together for a while now and there is not to much to stand in it's way other than some dry air, as others have already mentioned. I also agree what was said in another post that the system just does not have much of a chance for any development in the E. Caribbean. It will have to hold it's own until it gets thru that area. Now, the W. Carb. is an entirely different situation most of the time, if it makes it that far. Never the less, no matter what it becomes if anything, it's keeping us busy right now and giving us some hints of what may be down the road for the season. I personally think it has a good chance to be a TS even if it is short lived.

Thanks Josh for the info......this system will be very interesting to watch over the next few days. Wonder if it does develop into anything, where it will go?
