Re: Jet Stream Weakening May Alter Traditional Hurricane Paths
The article does not state that the jet stream shifts may influence tropical cyclone paths. It does regurgitate well documented research that illustrates conditions are more conducive for intense tropical cyclones because of the northerly displaced jet. It also states that the tracks of extratropical and continental systems may be altered. It does not bring the effects on TC tracks into the discussion.

I was referring to the caption below the Hurricane Andrew pic.

Title of the article:
Jet Streams Are Shifting And May Alter Paths Of Storms And Hurricanes
Caption under Hurricane Andrew Photo:
Hurricane Andrew. Storm paths in North America are likely to shift northward as a result of the jet stream changes. Hurricanes, whose development tends to be inhibited by jet streams, may become more powerful and more frequent as the jet streams move away from the sub-tropical zones where hurricanes are born. (Credit: NOAA)
And in the article text:
These changes fit the predictions of global warming models and have implications for the frequency and intensity of future storms, including hurricanes.

So I'm not sure what your comments mean? Can you better explain where you're coming from to help us understand why this article may or may not mean anything? I can certainly understand why someone would post this article using the same terminology that the authors did to TITLE the article. I can also understand that while the title of the article mentions storm paths and hurricanes it's probably not accurate to say they will shift the paths of tropical storms.

Re: Jet Stream Weakening May Alter Traditional Hurricane Paths
My statement was based on the fact that the actual text of the article (excluding the title) only mentions the correlation between the jet stream position and TC intensity. It does not explicitly mention TC paths, though it does bring up the possble effects on continental (non-tropical) systems' paths. Occasionally, I miss some hidden context in various articles, so "go easy" on me, though I definitely know that you were obviously asking a simple query.
