Wind Pool?

NC this year went up a whopping 35% on our wind pool policy's. Anyone else in wind pool states go up that much? Just wondering, NC really hasn't sustained any large losses in several years I wonder why the sudden change. BTW, for those members that don't know what a wind pool is. In high risk states (NC, Fl, Ms, La, Tx etc) homeowners policy's don't cover wind. Wind and hail are obtained under a separate policy (usually issued and regulated by the state).

Citizens is the "wind" policy in Florida..even though the rates are frozen 'till 2009,my mother paid on April 1st $3600 WITH 5% deductible..Last year before I escaped Florida my rate with State Farm was $4600 WITH 10% deductible..
Yours went up 35% to what amount??

BTW, that's why I chose this part of NC to move to...wayyyy off the coast

My windstorm policy (Citizens) in the Keys costs about $24.54 per $1,000 of coverage. That's $5,400 for $220,000 in coverage, including all surcharges, taxes, misc. fees, whatever. The Florida rate rollback brought that down to about $3,900 or $17.72 per $1,000 last year. If the rate cap comes off, it will probably go back to there it was.

I read that nearly $25 per thousand was the highest in the state, while some areas (the Panhandle, don't ask me why except the capital is near there) pay as little as $10-$12 per thousand.
