Heat Wave 2008
Hello!
Im from Bulgaria.
Maybe everybody knows what is happen last terrible summer in the Balkans.Record(ever) temperatures in Bulgaria over 46* - +20* up the normal, the huge fires in Bulgaria and Greece.
In the winter of 2007 we didnt have any snow and that was very strange. From 2005,we always have a flood season every April,2 years the biggest floods ever. For now we dont have any...and hope we wont.
Then the biggest heat wave. Then in the fall we have 3 tornadoes in Bulgaria(one of them was water tornado(have a clip),the other one hit a house and kill one woman, and the other was in an empty place). Then this winter we have a huge winter storm(like USA storms). Then last week we have 30* temperatures(that is so strange). After 2 days we will have so huge temps AGAIN!The temps are 30* only in the end of May until middle of September.
The anomalies here a lot of.
What do you think? Can we expect another heat wave?Opinions?

Re: Heat Wave 2008
Its too early to suggest that you would be getting the same weather patterns like the times before but its possible to suggest that it could happen. As for the abnormal weather you had over the past week or so, I'm looking at some weather charts of Eastern Europe and it seems that a High pressure which is bringing warm air from Asia and Africa is the source of the warm tempertures. I'm also saying that it could be possible for the tornadoes since that Russia is having a very cold winter and if the conditions are right, the cold mixes with the warm air which is given by the High Pressure to produce tornadoes.
Well that's what I think at least.

I agree with whats above. We didn't have that much heat last year, just a whole lot of water. I think a change of weather patterns was on the cards this time.

Heat wave forces early summer vacation in Orissa
Bhubaneswar, April 21 (IANS) Orissa Monday declared an early summer vacation for schools due to an unprecedented heat wave in the state that has reportedly caused death of at least 22 people although official figures say only four people have died. “Both the private and government schools in the state have been ordered to declare an early summer vacation from Tuesday,” a top official of the state revenue department told IANS.
“Usually the summer vacation starts from May every year but we have asked the school authorities to declare it early this year because temperature has crossed 40 degrees Celsius in many parts of the state,” he said.
The mercury has crossed over 40 degrees Celsius in many places including Jharsuguda, Sundergarh, Sambalpur, Talcher and Titilagarh town in the past one week.
On Monday, maximum temperature recorded at Bhubaneswar and Cuttack was 39.1 and 40.1 degrees Celsius respectively. The Jharsuguda, Sambalpur , Hirakud , Keonjhar and Chandbali towns saw the mercury crossing 41-degree mark, an official of the Bhubaneswar Met Office said.
The heat wave conditions are likely to prevail during next 48 hours, he said.
According to local media reports, at least 22 people have died of sunstroke since March. However, an official of the state revenue control room has only confirmed four deaths.

That's quite a big tornado!
I'm surprised see one that big in Europe, your easily looking at a F3 or F4 right there.

It is not normal for cold and snow for the western United states this late in the year. One side of the world the jet stream is into a cold trough, and the other a ridge.
