Re: Countdown to 2008 Atlantic Hurricane Season=30 Days
I'm getting this feeling that the first storm of 2008 may not form until August. May/June/July storms are not the norm looking at past records, though the NHC has recently become more liberal in naming questionable and/or subtropical systems early in the season. It's just a feeling I have, perhaps just wishful thinking that we may have another 3 months left to get ready at the office.

Whilst the la nina may have decayed typically when we've had strong la ninas in the winter the seasons tend to be slow to start, though I do note they often have at least one early tropical storm in say June before we see a period of nothing much before the season really ramps up in august/September.

I didn't go that far, but I did flip mine to June, just for a few seconds.

I wonder if it bodes well that our name list this year has yet to form a Category 5...but then again, the 05 list had yet to get a Category 5 up until that year (though Floyd, Gert, and Lenny came close), and gets four of them. Still, yes, I hope for a fishie year this year.

I tend to think this season numbers of TS won't be huge (say 12-14) but there will be a decent ratio of TS to hurricanes, I also think there will be a good 3-4 long lived cape verde hurricanes as well, I suspect most will recurve unless they are south enough at the start but this is just my IMO.
25 days to go now till the season starts!

I think two hurricanes will strike the US this season. Alittle more active for the US than last year but I don't think we will get a cat 5 strike

Well I hope not, I think the main difference this year is that we won't get nearly as severe shear values in the mid Atlantic as we did in the 2007 season, its a good job that got in the way because if that didn't form i'd have bet there would have been several long tracking dangerous storms.

I still cannot believe were are only ~3 weeks away from the start of the season! This winter has really flown by quickly! It is just so hard to believe that within the next 3-6 weeks we will probably be looking at our first Invest threads and possibly even an early season storm. Crazy!
Also of note: other than the first couple of days, this will be my first Hurricane season on storm2k that I will not be living in Houston. Instead, I plan on spending the first part of the season in central Florida, and then I will eventually be making my final move up to central Oklahoma (and away from the Hurricane threat zone) shortly before the peak of the season arrives.
