Prayers have been answered-My Dad is a cancer survivor!-1/28
Hey all,
You may have noticed my myspace headline in the last few weeks and have also noticed that it mentions devastation. If you have wondered what that devastation was, I am about to tell you…
About three weeks ago, my father found a lump under the side of his lower jaw bone. He went to the VA to find out if it was anything he needed to worry about. They did a biopsy in his neck. A few days later, he got the news that the biopsy sample had been squashed and that he had to go back for another. That’s what he did. After the second biopsy, the doctor and an oncologist went over the results and diagnosed my step dad with stage IV Oral Cancer.
Currently my mom and step dad are in Cancun on the last vacation for a very long time.
When they return my father has to go see an otolaryngologist, or a throat specialist and a dentist. There is a possibility because of the location of the cancer that my father may have to lose some teeth. He will have to get a feeding tube because of the treatments and a special chemo entry tube. The treatments will include a new treatment explained as to me as triple chemotherapy. It carries triple the strength, triple the side effects, but triple the help in nearly three times less the time normal chemo takes. After that he will be undergoing normal radiation. After radiation, the doctors should be able to remove the cancer. He will be out of work and normal life for as long as 5-6 months.
He has been given a 60% chance of living 3 or more years, and a 22% chance of living a normal life of 80 years. The odds are expected to rise, and all hopes are good. Everyone is in good spirit right now.
If you want to know why I waited a couple of weeks to tell everyone, it is at the request of my father to continue education and normal life, and not to interfere with my, or anyone else’s education.
Please keep him in your prayers. I will keep everyone informed with everything.
Thank You,
Jonathan.

Re: Prayer request
Jonathan, know that prayers are on their way to your step-dad and you and your mom as you deal with this difficult time. As he said, don't let it take away from your school, but I know you will help all you can above what I'm certain you already do at home.

My prayers to you Fact789. I had one of the head/neck cancer ethicists
as a professor this past semester, and they are very good about treatment.
Keep hoping for the best. These doctors are very skillful at treating cancers, from
my knowledge- so you have strong reasons to hope for the best. Again my prayers with you and your family.

Re: Prayer request
I am praying for your father Fact789 that he will recover completely. As a survior of thyroid cancer I can tell him that some hair loss is ineveitible with radiation treatments. My cancer was found before it had spread out of the thyroid gland but just barely in time, it was sending out feelers that had not yet pemetrated the inner lining of the thyroid gland. My tumor was the sixe of a tennis ball.
