Check the last few frames of Visible Floater

#1 Postby Steve Cosby » Mon Jul 07, 2003 3:52 pm

Check out the last 3-4 frames of the Visible Floater:

It sure looks to me like that CDO is spinning just as its crossing over one of the islands.

The spin to this system has been better than it could of been in the last 48 to 72 hours. This is sure a player in the coming days.

I noticed the thickness of the clouds as it passed over one of the islands. I am not counting this one out because of Lili. I thought she died and then boom here she comes.

Definite spin noted there!! It is at the mid-level as stated above since they did not find any west winds during recon. The convection is now increasing again and we will need to continue to watch this one till it is either torn apart by shear or other environmental hazards or makes landfall somewhere and fizzles to nothing. I too am having eerie reminisences of Lili with this one.

This system has been spinning since at least Saturday... when the impressive flareup began.

This one sure reminds me of Lili as well. All of us along the gulf coast need to watch this one for sure. It sure is looking better with the big blowup of convection.

Just got in from work ...

The problem with the system is just like yesterday ... despite the nice spin in the mid-levels ... I cannot find or see any evidence of an LLC (low clouds moving SE around the SW'ern edge of the convection ...

Finally able to sit down and try to catch up on what has been going on today. Looks like 95L,TD or TS fizzled a little today! Man, it looked like a sure thing last night and I was convienced that It would be named soon. Looks like it is trying to hold itself together this evening, and if it perks up over night who knows. But you know what they say about the E. Carib. so it's going to have to hold itself together somewhat until it gets to the other side, or it is really going to go to the other side,(if you know what I mean).Haven't been able to see much recon data, so let me ask a question here. What coordinates did they investigate today? Could it possibly be that they just did not look in the right place? I mean, I'm sure this has happened before. I know this is a long shot thought but could it be possible? Any comments appreciated!

I think the plane left too early

#14 Postby Steve Cosby » Mon Jul 07, 2003 6:34 pm

I really think the plane left too early. It looks like the last few recon observations were out to the east and northeast of the blob that formed this afternoon. It looks like the plane landed down in the islands somewhere. They might fly around down there longer tomorrow.

Must be those Air Force pukes and their crew rest! (Not much sun for the beach today I guess, though)

Rainband, I'm only talking about the here and now ... but it's future ... and IMO, it has a future ... It's been able to maintain vigorous convection and a nice ML spin for several days ... it may have some problems (or not) in the TZOD, but with that much pre-existing spin, and that much convection ... it should eventually work down to the surface ... It would definitely help its own cause if the system slowed down a tad ...

This does not remind me of Lili at all. Conditions were very favorable farther to the west, which is not the case here. This is starting to remind me of a wave in 1999 that moved through the Islands at the same time of year, but never quite was able to get its MLC to the surface

Lili and this storm

#18 Postby jabber » Mon Jul 07, 2003 7:34 pm

Lili at one point did have a LLC, so far this invest has not. It is a very strong wave and I am not counting it out yet but it is entering into a area not historically favorable for formation.

It sure is persistent and holding together. Now let's see if it can make it through Death Valley.

I still think it'll be Claudette....but what do I know?

Last couple of IR images are revealing another tumble in the mid-levels and some new convection beginning to fire ...
