Tornadoes wreak havoc in Northern Colorado

By Staff Writer
05/22/2008

DENVER – Tornadoes sweeping through parts of northern Colorado have leveled a business park in Windsor and caused significant damage.

One emergency responder in Windsor could be heard over radio saying "We are in total destruction."

Emergency responders were preparing early Thursday afternoon to possibly summon help from as far south as Brighton.

Heavy damage to buildings, including a funeral home were reported in Windsor as well as gas line ruptures.

Radar showed a tornado about 5 miles east of Fort Lupton just after 11:15 this morning.

Several emergency agencies first responded to reported tornado damage along U.S. Highway 85 near Gilcrest including a pair of overturned semi-trucks. St. Vrain School District officials reported students in the Carbon Valley were taking shelter as the wild weather moved through the area.

You mean US 85? or I-25? or a new tornado in the Southeast since I-85 goes nowhere near Colorado?

Well yep Windsor has been hit pretty hard from what I've heard, also some very large hail in the region.

Also funnel cloud has been spotted in firestone as well hopefully that doesn't do anything more down the line.

Finally the tornado track takes it close to Fort Collions (spelling!)

Thunderstorm cells look like they are weakening now, but still see strong TVS near Loveland, CO.

Well given we've already seen a large tornado develop out of this set-up I suspect it would be a bit foolish if they didnt issue a PDS to be honest.

Also just heard there has been a death...

DenverPost.com reports multiple crashes and injuries on Colo. 60 and U.S. 85 due to the twister. Also says heaviest damage is reported by NWS in Dacono, Windsor, and Greeley.

RockyMountainNews.com reports that fire and ambulances being dispatched to Windsor and that one law enforcement officer said on the radio that "We're in total destruction here."

Bad, bad start to what could be a bad, bad day for tornado havoc.

My prayers with these people.

Maybe fine-tuning it, with decisions on PDS? (although it should be PDS)
