Personally, I'm going to enjoy the time off while we have it. I do have to remind myself that it is only June though, it sure feels like August this week.

Seasons a Bust!
Season's a bust! Season's a bust! Prognosticators wrong (what the heck thought I might as well stir things up during our slow period). It reminds me of a year in which the first named storm didn't occur until July 31. A year in which by mid July almost all were skeptical because it too was supposed to be active. The year was 2004

Reminds me of another slow starting year. 1992...The "A" storm wasn't until August! A small storm named Andrew!

Also like 1983. Alicia was a little storm in August that went over my house.

LOL - when I first read the topic, my thinking was "Uh-oh, boxing glove time!", and, I'm tempted to say things that would cause someone to sock me, but, I won't...
The season just started - we'll see what happens...
Still, the early May "maximum" of May 5 went by without a whimper, and, with the exception of a weak Arthur in late May, so far the "official" hurricane season is quiet, too, with strong shear across the Caribbean at this time. I like to use May as an example, since I still recall May, 1981, which included a short-lived near-hurricane south of Cuba:

With gasoline prices as they are, let's pray for a quiet Gulf season...

It is not unusual that June and July are quiet. In fact 2004 is another good example. First storm was not until the end of July and then look how Aug. and Sept turned out with Jeanne, Frances, and Charley. 2005 is a very atypical season and it is not common to get big systems developing even in July mainly because TUTT lows typically keep the Caribbean in a high sheared environment until August when the TUTT typically migrates more West over Central America.
I've always said the REAL hurricane season is August - October.
Tropical storm season is the rest of the season (June, July, and November).

May I remind you of Bertha and Fran?

Yeah its way too early for any such talk like that, esp given that usually in seasons that follow a high end la nina in the winter tend to be a little slow to start then really ramp up from the 10-20th of August onwards.
Also look at 2004, a very active year for the USA and also a very high number of major hurricanes.

Re: Seasons a Bust!
1998 started slow. It produced Georges and Mitch. 2004 started on July 31 and it was very active. Also, 1930 had two storms recorded, likely there were more storms that went undetected. One of them killed 8,000 people in Dominican Republic and Haiti. 1997 had an active start, but turned out to be a slow season. Danny formed in July, which is rather early for a "d" storm to form.

This is all ATYPICAL for the Atlantic though. You need to look at a long-term mean for the Atlantic basin where you will see June and July are very quiet months overall. Here is a frequency chart I found at ocean-pro.com

There were a couple of other pre season storms that also probably hould have been named (we discussed this topic before, that Andrew was probably in reality Danielle)
Thank you Derek for the information. Remember, some of us here are just amateur weather buffs. So please bear with us.
Thanks!
