that line of storms from western iowa into west-central wisconsin may tend to build to the east-southeast now that much of the instability in southern wisconsin has been wiped out. the immense CAPE and tropical moisture pooling across iowa will feed into this line as the low-level jet picks up this evening, and some back-building will likely occur through the night - this should all result in a major flooding event across northeast iowa and much of southern wisconsin, perhaps into northern illinois late tonight.

the tornado threat will probably diminish after dark a bit, but wet microbursts to 80 mph may be possible through the night. i expect to see tornado watches extended through much of the night, nevertheless.

Yes, I was. Also was here when Stoughton got hit in 2005 by that F3 and got some nice images of the clouds!

Looks now like we're in the clear. At least for now. Local meteorologists are saying there's still a chance things will pop back up through the night. We'll see.

I think peak time for tornadoes will be from now till about 8pm as the jet becomes more active and daytime heating still exists.

Having said that, the the atmosphere in areas of wisconsin is showing signs of fatigue, large areas are mixing out with all the activity from today.

Yes, the tornado approaching the S side of Chicago is definitely looking scary. I hope it weakens of cycles down before approaching heavily populated areas. Otherwise, a tornado emergency should be declared shortly.

This IL storm is only about 3 or 4 miles from some fairly dense populations and it only gets worse as it works its way north and east.
