The CW Network Slowly Fading Out?

#1 Postby TexasStooge » Thu Jun 26, 2008 10:46 pm

Is it me? Is the current CW affiliate in Dallas/Fort Worth (KDAF-TV) changing networks? Or is the CW network slowly fading out after almost 2 years?

Since June 23rd, I couldn't help but noticing their latest commercials ended with the announcer saying "KDAF 33" instead of "CW33"...however, the 'CW33' branding is kept.

If I remember correctly, I heard or read something recently that indicated that the CW would be changing/going away, but I wouldn't take that to the bank yet.

I would not take that to the bank at all. Likely what has happened is the local station is deciding to go with a station-based name. I think CW will stick around through the 08-09 TV season at least. MyNetworkTV would be the one I could see folding unless some of their strategies pay off this next TV season, such as bringing in WWE.

The CW isn't folding I don't think. Their shows like Gossip Girl are still in production.

1. CW is in trouble financially.

2. Of all the networks, they were hurt the most by the WGA strike.

3. Some of the their best shows are gone (Gilmore Girls, the wrestling show, Veronica Mars, The Reaper), in their last season (Smallville, Supernatural <I think>, One Tree Hills), or exiled to death on Friday (Everyone Hates Chris) . . .

4. They have done a dramatic re-working based on the new demographic they are going after . . . girls between 10-18 (ok, I think only girls between 10-18 would watch these shows  ) . . .

ok CW " .. .redefined its target audience as exclusively 18- to 34-year-old women . . . (for the record -- wtf -- other than Supernatural and The Reaper . . . I don't watch the drek on CW . . . I am not that desperate for entertainment.)

5. I think this the article vbhoutex is refering to . .

I miss Veronica Mars hardcore. It's the most underrated show since Buffy.

Basically... as I see it, if they don't produce a hit show this upcoming season, they will fold by 2010.

Even if they produce one hit it probably won't be enough, it may just delay the inevitable.
