if they try to close the Strait of Hormuz (which they cannot), it would merely bring about a repeat of Operation Preying Mantis

Maybe Iran needs to lose half of their surface fleet to us in one afternoon yet again.

How stupid are the Iranians?

Precisely. It wouldn't matter if the West destroyed the entire Iranian fleet in 10 minutes, the price of oil would spike to $200 within the day.

As I said, you can say what you like about oil prices, but when there is an attack either on or by Iran, all bets are off.

And yes, there is no "if" about it in my opinion.

Iran ready to strike at Israel’s nuclear heart

I think Iran is trying to provoke Israel into a first strike.

I think it wouldn't be at all surprising if Iran is trying to provoke Israel into something.

IMO, this would be a major mistake on their part. I could care less about all of their sabre rattling and threats. If they do manage to provoke Israel, there won't be a second chance for them. Of that you can be sure!!!

Certainly, but I think that in being destroyed they could do a lot of damage to the world economy.

Admittedly that is a definite in this whole scenario, but I don't think they are thinking about that if they are truly trying to provoke Israel. Whether the world sees a preemptive strike by Israel as right or wrong is of no consequence since Iran as we know it today would no longer exist. Unfortunately, if this does happen the whole world and especially the US will have a huge economical problem to deal with on top of all the "debris" that something like this would cause politically.(and I stop there so I don't have to suspend myself)

Even more blah, blah:

Report: U.S. 'preparing the battlefield' in Iran

The Bush administration has launched a "significant escalation" of covert operations in Iran, sending U.S. commandos to spy on the country's nuclear facilities and undermine the Islamic republic's government, journalist Seymour Hersh said Sunday.

White House, CIA and State Department officials declined comment on Hersh's report, which appears in this week's issue of The New Yorker....

Psy Ops?

Israel May Attack Iran This Year, Pentagon Official Tells ABC

By Ladane Nasseri and Thomas Penny

July 1 (Bloomberg) -- Israel is increasingly likely to attack Iranian nuclear facilities this year, a U.S. Defense Department official told ABC News.

Iran's government dismissed as propaganda the ABC report on the unidentified Pentagon official's comments. Israeli government officials declined to comment on the report.

An Israeli strike might be triggered by the production of enough enriched uranium at Iran's Natanz nuclear plant to make a bomb, ABC cited the official as saying. A second possible trigger would be the delivery of a Russian SA-20 air-defense system, the installation of which would make an Israeli attack more difficult, the U.S. official told ABC.

More tough talk but as long talking dominates and a bomb or a missele is not fired we are ok.
