Look at my avatar. The second most impressive hurricane of 2006. (after Ioke) Daniel was an annular cane as well. An other example is Epsilon (not so sure). They are more likely to form over the EPac due to the conditions there.

gotoman38, yep for all these long trackers you tend to find these threads get close to if not above 100 pages long, esp when there is a threat to the USA.
Yes, I know - been tracking with the occasional post when I think I can contribute for several years - just this thread has particularly impressed me!
Question: The title on this latest IR image is stating 974mb - isn't that a leftover from the first RI cycle?

Do you notice the mesovortices in the huge, symmetric eye, that's also a characteristic of an anular cane.

Yup, I noticed. Not sure what causes that though.

that is easily the best the eye has ever looked, however she definitely needs convection on her west side...if she can get that then we will easily have a 120mph hurricane. Dean's eye didnt even look this good until it was just east of the yucatan!

The eye looks amazing! The convection, not so much. It appears to be decreasing slowly.

Bertha's structure is ok...I've seen much better obviously. I don't see her getting much stronger than she is now. IMO, at 11pm advisory look for a 100kt hurricane. I noticed earlier somebody mentioned a possible hurricane watch for Bermuda. Any thoughts? Probably be wise, though I'm sure everybody on the island is very well capable of handling a Cat. 3.

dry air and or shear would be my guess. Again, look at the cloud structure. There is definitely a northward pull.

lastest ramsdis image shows convection rewrapping around the storm from the northwest...its a narrow band, but its an improvement.

Probably a bit too early for a watch. Bermuda is well aware of Bertha's presence. Another 24 hours, maybe. Hey guru18

Well, I had been a "lurker" since about 2004, but yes, Rita is what actually made me sign-up to post
