Jerry Springer Opera? Yep.

#1 Postby wx247 » Mon Jul 07, 2003 8:41 am

LONDON, England (AP) -- The hit stage show "Jerry Springer -- the Opera" is staying in London, with top ticket prices kept low to encourage a younger audience, theater officials said Friday.

The critically acclaimed production, based on Springer's tell-all TV show, will open at the Cambridge Theatre in Covent Garden in London's West End on October 14. It has already had a sell-out run at the National Theatre.

Producers are offering 35,000 top-price tickets at a reduced rate.

"We think it is vitally important to get more young people into the theater and it is a show which has proved hugely appealing to a younger audience," a theater spokesman said.

Well, you all know how I feel about Jerry Springer......OMG, is all I can say. Jerry just keeps reinventing himself. Still wants to eventually go into politics. 18+ voters are who he's really after - he knows he doesn't have this 48 year old's vote. So I guess launching this "Opera", and we should use that term loosely, over in the UK first is first on his agenda. Make it a huge success over there, bring it over here next.

In today's Entertainment World, you never know what will be next. And yes, I 100% believe Jerry is doing this for entertainment purposes, not political purposes. But in the end, he just may have many voters on his side, and for that reason, I just shudder. I could never take him seriously now, I would just keep imagining her silly show. He was a very effective Cincinnati Mayor, but that was eons ago.

Good Lord Almighty  I find it so hard to believe this man was once a minister. Never liked him or his show. He'd never have a vote from anyone I know. This is a good exposure for kids to theater ?? :o I don't think so.... ~K

That is what I was thinking PV. I don't know if that would be good theatre or not.

Aww, heck. Kids can watch it at home, and they have some bad stuff on them shows. Atleast their censors work....

Anyways, a theatre production? Er, well, that's over there. I'm still in Topeka. ;)

Whenever I hear anything about Jerry Springer, all I can think is "how trashy".

I look at Jerry Springer like Pro wrestling. A lot of staged crap. The only thing about Wrestling is better entertainment value and better looking actors.

I'm not a fan of the show. Years ago when it came out, I found it mildly humorous if there was nothing else on. A few dyas ago I was flipping channels and stopped to watch it. Evidentally there are necklaces given out like Mardi Gras beads for women who take their shirts off.

I can't place all the blame on Jerry though. In actuality he sold the concept to America, and America loved it. The show is still on today because we live in a society that takes delight in other people's pain and humility.

God help us all.

Sandy, that is so true...and so sad. I was floored several days ago to recieve an email from some "sicko" making fun of former POW Jessica Lynch (because of my "get well" website in her honor). The email said "Jessica and her family would be the perfect family for the CBS reality show Beverly Hillbillies" (scheduled for airing this fall). His sick comments including: "you are such a fool for having a website honoring Jessica Lynch....she's just a stupid hillbilly hick that deserved her injuries" AND "Lynch is no hero...all her injuries were caused because she's a bad woman driver" :grrr: :grrr: :grrr:

This was said regarding a teenage female Army supply clerk that's suffered in the hospital for over three months after being critically injured in combat...she's still unable to walk, unable to use her right hand (and she may be in the hospital until November...Jessica isn't healing as well as hoped; in fact, I've been told she may never walk again without aid of a walker
