Mecklenburg, it's supposed to slowdown even more and if you see the geography of Texas, the farther the north Dolly gets, the more the state coastline bends westwards until a certain point.

That may keep her alive in 2014 if she doesn't strengthen a whole lot more as it puts the worst into a rural area.

She surely looks impressive ATM. It's quite possible that she could miss Brownsville and SPI and wobble slightly north of those locations. As it is, that whole area stands to take a beating. Prayers for everyone in its path.

This WV loop shows that ridge pushing southward. Look at the top of the pic at the dark area pushing south. She's about ready to go west. Should be within the next 2 hours.

I am talking to a good friend (text) in Raymondville ( near the coast, up from Brownsville). She told me that they have had wind and rain, but nothing too bad....yet.

talking about that dry line in the north of the stormat this present time, what I have noticed since late last night is she continually rebuilds then spits off a band to her north, east or both. This has been happening over and over. It does not seem to affect her other than while the actual transition of spitting it off happens. She then seems to gain strength as well. Has anyone else noticed this and is there a term for this?

I certainly wouldn't put Dolly on the 2014 list just yet.

Her story has yet to be written as far as damage goes. This is an area that has built up significantly since Beulah in 1967, not to mention that there are some poorly constructed structures on both sides of the RG.

And given Dolly's slow movement and the tremendous rainfall potential (hate to think what would happen if she stalls over the RG near some of those mountains in northern Mexico), tremendous flooding and perhaps even extreme flooding seems plausible.

Beulah's legacy was wind and water and I'm afraid Dolly's will be too.

To get to a Cat 3, flight-level winds would need to be at least 111 kt.

Well nearly every major hurricane's legacy is either wind, water, or wind and water.

Personally I think some pretty bad damage occurred in Pt. Isabel/S Padre vicinity. Could have had sustained hurricane force for a few hours due to convective bursts. The outer eyewall's been sitting on that area for hours.

Just me but it looks like she's trying to skim the coast a little bit, I say landfall will be around Port Mansfield later this afternoon. It's going to be a long day for those in south Texas with how slow this thing is moving.

This is an extremely impressive CAT 2 hurricane. It does have a "major" hurricane look to it. To think that just 24 hours ago it looked nothing like it did now:

It could be that this last wind increase was just the winds catching up to the last pressure drop and this is the peak now over tapped shelf waters. You never know.

Ya im going to invoke a storm from 2005. Dolly, actually presents a better look on Sat than Dennis did. She is moving how fast and is expected to slow more yet? Of course dennis was a very fast storm.
