Currently there is a mandatory evacuation in La Feria: only to East Commercial St and surrounding streets due to a gas line rupture and a electrical power line down over the gas line.

Emergency personnel have blocked these surrounding roads and emergency officials have evacuated everyone who live near due to the possibility of an explosion.

That is where my friend is. She lost power and the winds are really howling. She is 20 miles from there. Fortunately, she is in the country.

Looks like the entire eye is now completely inland. On what is probably a related note, radar suggests eye is starting to fill.

Edit to add- winds were gusting to 74 mph at that last recorded wind ob, so it is possible power is out. Or possibly the anemometer malfunctioned, although I'd think it would take winds well in excess of 74 mph to do it. But I don't really know.

I hope everyone was prepared and has been safe as the storm continues inland. As the winds go down, rain will continue to accumulate and flooding becomes the biggest threat. I know 97L is there but I just want a week free of tropical activity. It has been a very stressing July.

Thanks so much. My parents live in Weslaco, I'm in West Broward, Florida (Wilma, not fun). This is their first storm, and I'm so glad I can see my dad's favorite weather station now. :)

Are the cities running along Hwy 83 going to be out of the worst, or right on the line? That's where the largest population is in Hidalgo Cty.

Thanks for everyone's posts -- been keeping me sane for the past 2 days.

Thank you so much. I don't have television, don't want it except in times like these, and I've been looking all day. This one works! Again, gracias!!
