Wow, didn't know that. When you buy a product already made there is a disconnection with what went into making it. You just go and buy it and usually don't think about how much effect and it seems in this case, blood, it was put to making it. You are only preoccupied to find the cheapest!

Meh. You can't blame industry for the fact that some people act like animals when presented with a valuable opportunity.

Agreed, but can/should you demand that the industry try to find a less volatile(for lack of better wording) replacement for it?

This sort of thing is tragic, but there's really no way to change it or even keep it from getting worse at this point.

If you think conflicts like this are bad, wait until people are fighting over zinc, copper, and of course, petroleum.

Then the conflict will just move elsewhere. What's the difference?

We can't halt or slow our own progress for this kind of reason, IMHO.

Wars have always been fought because of resources. Our next war will be over water. Mark my words.

Are you forgetting that skirmish between Tenessee and Georgia for Georgia to gain water for its drought by entending the state line up, claiming part of Tenessee? Sadly, it can happen.

Real water wars may happen eventually, but the next several will likely be over oil like the last few.

More likely, though, a combination of desalination plants and salt tolerant plants will help deflect any chance of war over water.
