5-Year-Old Leaves Day Care, Goes to Hooters

DENTON, Texas -- Denton police say a child was able to sneak out of his day-care center without anyone noticing and take a perilous walk that ended at a Hooters restaurant.

The 5-year-old boy reportedly walked out of the Imagination Station day care in the 2300 block of San Jacinto Boulevard on Tuesday afternoon.

Police said he walked a long way in 100-degree heat crossing at least two busy streets.

He went to a Pep Boys, where he swiped some gum, according to a store worker. The boy then hiked to a RaceTrac gas station where he stole a soda, according to investigators.

His walk then led to a Hooters restaurant where employees gave him a coloring book and soda pop to drink and called police.

The child was not hurt and he was released to his father.

Imagination Station would not comment on the situation.

According to the Department of Family and Protective Services, the day care has had several violations including one in April in which inspectors determined that staff was not properly supervising the children.

The state agency is now investigating this case.

The fact that a 5 year old was not properly surpervised by those who were put in his charge and the fact he faced mortal danger because of it. The day care needs to be shut down imo since there have apparently been multiple violations concerning the suprevision of the children in their care.

Curious, he goes into two different stores where nobody does a thing and ends up in a Hooters where they watch over him and call the Police-what were the employees at the other stores thinking?

I figured you were kidding too Numlock. But all kidding aside, this was a little boy who could have fallen into the wrong hands.

Thank goodness for a happy ending here!

Shame on that daycare though......

Since when do gas stations do the right thing?

I don't know about the Pep boys though.

This daycare center needs to fire whoever was working that shift.

Not necessarily the gas station but the people that are working there.
You never know when some parents might send their kids in to buy something, but you would think if he was stealing and the workers saw him they would then look around for the parents. I know I wouldn't have let him walk out of the store after I saw him stealing. lol.
I have a 5YO and can't imagine her doing all those things alone, the daycare center most definitely needs to be shut down, especially since this isn't the first incident. They are lucky the boy is okay.

Glad to hear that little boy had a good time but had he run into the wrong people this story may have had a very unhappy ending.
