Seems like we should've had that Severe T-storm watch a bit earlier this morning too! :ggreen: The last time I heard winds howl like that was when I was evacuated to Lufkin during Rita!....oh, no, wait....I forgot about Humberto.

That wind was some kinda bad! Twice in one day is a pretty hearty weather day! This also makes twice in one day that I've had to remove my son's basketball goal from off of the top of my Honda. :grr: Yes, I finally moved my car.

Anyone out there after Eddie passed through? Just one more non-event in a summer 'cane season, eh? I had a great day with my husband at home and a friend from Sugar Land who came over for company. Oh well, the only casualties were a number of Corona long necks.

Hey there Jen. Back to normal again. The Houston-Galveston luck from not being directly affected by major cane continues.

I had 1.13" of rain a gust of 27mph from the WNW.

I wouldn't call it a non-event over here, but it certainly wasn't too bad for most people. I'm just glad I have my electricity back!!

Getting some pretty intense storms right now... a lot of loud thunder and lightning, along with heavy rain.

I don't usually post duplicates, but I am now. lol
My quick summary that I posted in Edouard thread:

southerngale wrote:I'm at home and I have power! Image

Heavy rain and a bunch of wind... lots of branches down, but no damage at all. I know of one man in Beaumont who wasn't as lucky when a 40 foot oak came tumbling down on his house. An 18-wheeler was turned over. There was minor flooding here and there, a lot of power outages, some trees down, but all in all, not very bad. It wasn't nearly as bad as the damage here caused by Humberto last year, and I doubt (hope, pray) nothing ever comes anywhere close to what Rita did to us in 2005. That was a nightmare.

Local met, Greg Bostwick (greg_kfdm_tv on here) said tonight that it's like we've become a hurricane/tropical storm magnet. It's kinda unreal. It hasn't even been 3 years since Rita hit, and we've already had another hurricane and a tropical storm.

After being told that we'd get a bunch of rain dumped on us by the late E, we got sprinkles. Not even enough to measure.

Sigh. Maybe I should have washed the cars ;)

I was driving to Sulphur for work this afternoon and looked in my rearview mirror and saw that it was pitch black and lightning back to the west. On my drive back I noticed alot of standing water on the side of I-10 around the Vinton area. Guess the storms were spotty but intense this afternoon, huh?

Back to summer and the sea breeze. Are the storms to the NE going to make it this far? Possibly of good outflows, if they develop.

This could get interesting, outflow coming in from the north, and the sea breeze from the south. looks like they will meet up just around Baytown. just what I don't need more rain! I got 5 inches from the tropical storm, then the next day a inch from a thunderstorm.

I'm guesstimating 2 inches from Edouard. Which was good. But another inch today wouldn't hurt my feelings at all.

Per radar, outflow boundary almost to my house, and it looks dry.

There have been several warnings this afternoon in the area. Not much going on at my house, but the electricity is out at my parent's house. Go figure... I lose it during Edouard and they don't. They lose it this afternoon with all these scattered thunderstorms and I don't.

Looks like an intense though small storm over Pasadena/East Houston heading SW. Wondering if we're going to get warnedon this one. Won't affect me here in near NW Houston though.

Interesting bit of weather not far from where I work this afternoon.

Severe weather strikes New Iberia
BY STEVE WILSON AND HEATHER MILLER
THE DAILY IBERIAN
Published/Last Modified on Friday, August 8, 2008 4:41 PM CDT

A sudden tornado caused minor to moderate damage in New Iberia just before 1 p.m. today.

Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Wendell Raborn saod a funnel cloud touched down in the Winn-Dixie shopping center at Lewis St. in between Main and St. Peters streets in New Iberia.

The sheriff’s office said there was damage to 10 parked cars. A fence was also knocked over.

“Witnesses saw the funnel cloud come down and move across the parking lot,” Raborn said.

National Weather Service Forecaster Sam Shamburger said the weather service has confirmed a tornado touchdown.

“This is based on the eye-witnessed descriptions and the damage,” Shamburger said.

Nette Vital, manager of Movie Gallery Video Store saw the twister move in a southwesterly direction across the parking lot.

“It was huge,” Vital said. “It went from The Daily Iberian building to Hong Kong Buffet and then across the parking lot.”

Winn-Dixie manager Dennis Champagne said that about six of his employees had window damage to their cars parked in the parking lot.

Sandra Lumpkin was in her car with her husband in the shopping center at 12:57 p.m. when the reported microburst hit.

“I was shaken,” Lumpkin said. “The windows were shattered and it was all over us.”

A few blocks over at Pellerin Funeral Home on Jefferson Terrace, a funnel cloud ripped off a portion of the funeral home roof during a funeral service and shattered a window on New Iberia resident Elizabeth Theriot’s van in the parking lot. Funeral home president Gene Pellerin said the roof damage only covers the carport.

Pellerin said he drove into the parking lot right before the twister touched down. He and his children were standing outside of his truck when debris began flying everywhere.

“I heard a loud noise and then saw the tunnel of wind,” said Pellerin. “I shoved my kids into the car, but the wind pressure was too strong for me to shut the door. But, be thankful everyone’s Ok.”

The tornado also picked up a dumpster and tossed it into the middle of the rear parking lot of Pellerin Funeral Home.

“I heard a very loud noise, sounded like a train, and then the whole building started shaking,” said Elizabeth Theriot, who was inside the funeral home when it happened. “That’s a sound I don’t want to hear anymore.”

The Sheriff’s Office said one person was taken to the Iberia Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries, according to the sheriff’s office.

Dang, crazy! We had some warnings over here today, but I don't think anything came out of them. Thank God nobody was seriously hurt over there.

I can confirm that something did actually come from our warnings yesterday, SG. It was more than likely the same line that came from Louisiana. I believe they were moving East to South. We got caught in it near Lamar University. We were driving home from Pt. Neches and got caught in the worst storm I've ever been in. My mom was driving but it was bad enough just being a passenger. I was afraid my jaw was going to lock from clinching. We finally decided to pull off of the highway when it started hailing and blowing sheets of rain not being able to see in front of us. We pulled into a McDonalds parking lot (I hate bad weather and was in tears from fear...great example for my kids, I'm sure) But when it was hailing I just knew we were either in a tornado or one was close. We were trying to get out of the car to run inside and the wind was blowing crazily. All my kids were saying was "mom, can we eat". I said "who can think of eating at a time like this"? (laughing now but not then) I finally got hold of someone that could look at the doppler and tell me if it was clear to move North and was told we were under a Tornado Warning until 6:30 and thank God it was 6:29. That was horrible!! But I'm a chicken so it might not have been as bad as I made it sound!!
