But convection seems to be diminishing near the center (and all around the storm for that matter). I would not be surprised if they lower it to 35kts at 5PM CST.

I am willing to put money down that the storm will not be 35kt at 5pm. You can keep willing yourself into believing that if you want.

Willing has nothing to do with it. Its closer to 35kts than 45kts... The dry air will hamper its development. If convection does not build over center, we will not have a hurricane.

I see no cold cloud tops whatsover on IR. This is weaker than what it looks.

I think the estimate of 40kts is fair enough, we need to see convection develop if this is going to go beyond a mid range TS despite the system having a fairly good structure right now.

High winds, wet conditions and chemical trucks, Rated-R coming to a theater near you.

I personally wouldn't risk chemicals in potentially bad conditions, but that's just me.

The avg Joe in Houston doesn't really keep up with Hurricanes. Many Houstonians barely felt Humberto as most of the Heavy weather was well east of Houston.

So true. Even some avid hurricane fans don't remember Humberto. I mentioned Humberto to a friend who is very interested in tropical systems, but doesn't really follow them online, and he couldn't remember Humberto at all. We got nothing from Humberto here - it was all Louisiana.

when people are asking for advice about what to do with the storm, if you are not a meteorologist, please direct them to local emergency management officials.. I don't want to degrade anyone, but those without the proper training are less likely to provide the appropriate information.

You should probably prepare them to come in anyway. Get their phone numbers and if things go down hill you can always call them early AM and tell them to stay home.

"At the present" I'm preparing to be at work tomorrow based on the current conditions.

Bastardi still says hurricane near Houston area, with hurricane force winds w/i 20 miles of center at the coast, and earlier post set 980 mb as a possible floor.



Based on recon pressure falls of, at best, 1 mb per hour, I suspect he has swung too far the other way from the 1000 mb Abby comparison. But we shall see.

My gut, unofficial, of course, is 1000 will be closer, by a fair margin, than 980 mb.

Bull I live in port neches and it wasn't all Louisiana! WE had the eye pass over us. The reason i am watching this one so close is because of what Humberto did I don't put anything pass mother nature in general lol she is a women and we all r unpredictable!

It's a good thing this system is being affected by dry air... Could you imagine if it wasn't. That's a lot of land that would be affected by a rapidly intensifying system.

I agree Ed he probably saw the convection about 4hrs ago burst and it did look mor eimpressive earlier but now I have to agree that he probably has big time swang too far, his earlier comprasion of Abby is looking quite close to the mark as it happens
