Re: ATL: Tropical Storm Edouard - Gulf of Mexico
Looks like everyone from Crystal Beach eastward into the Golden Triangle will probably get the worst of it.. I know this may be the wrong forum, but what are the risks of tornadoes for a storm like this??

Yeah James Brown said the center was over that rig 30 mi. S of Sabine Pass during his 3:00 update

Gregg Norman on 13 KHOU is still predicting us to get some effects of wind and rain even though it's hitting east of here. Maybe I shouldn't go to work after all? This newbww is a little nervous.
Newbee. see, I can't type!

Do not focus on the middle of the line. Storm effects will stretch well north and south of where this makes landfall on the coast. The highest winds will be near and just north of the landfall location, but anyone within the inner bands can experience tropical storm force winds and heavy rains.

extradited wrote:Everyone was talking about a Galveston landfall, but it doesn't look like that's possible given its current track. Galveston is what? 50-75 miles away from the strong outer bands?
The center is not that blob of no rain. It is farther to the west. With the projected coords and the track it should be galveston...

If it does hit close to Crystal Beach, there is a pretty good amount of beach front development in that area.

If it wasn't for the dry air and shear in place a couple of days ago this could of been a very nasty Mr. Ed.

Yep, I stayed in one of those houses on stilts while on a duck hunt last fall near High Island.
Most structures will be safe from any flooding, just a question of what type of wind damage there would be.
Now on the marsh side of the Bolivar Pen. and Galveston Island, not nearly as many houses on stilts. If they get an offshore flow through the Bay, could be some minor flooding there I suppose.

The west end of the Island tends to get cut off from the rest due to high tides covering the road in and out of that end. Yesterday, the Mayor reminded people of that fact as it could stay flooded for a couple of days, but no mandatory evacs were issued.

The center of Edouard is currently directly over our weather station in the Gulf about 30 miles southeast of Sabine Pass. Peak gust on the west side of 67 mph. Current pressure 29.43" (996 mb). The temperature and dewpoint climbed 7 degrees in the center to 82 degrees with an 82 dewpoint.
I expect landfall between High Island and Sabine Pass around 7 A.M.
