Re: ATL: Tropical Storm Edouard - Gulf of Mexico
Yeah, I drove east towards High Island and then up to Winnie going home. Saw numerous spots where there could be some serious overwash, not to mention San Luis Pass where it looked like a few feet of water would be over the bridge there.
Wouldn't be surprised if there is some highway damage there.
But, if - and this is a big if - the center hits near Crystal Beach, there's a lot of empty sand and marsh land to the east of there until you get to High Island.

AIRCRAFT AND RADAR FIXES SHOW THAT THE MOTION IS A LITTLE FASTER AND
TO THE RIGHT OF THE PREVIOUS ESTIMATE...AND IS NOW 300/10. THE
STEERING FLOW FOR EDOUARD IS BEING PROVIDED BY A MID-TROPOSPHERIC
ANTICYCLONE NEAR THE LOWER PORTION OF THE MISSISSIPPI VALLEY. THIS
SYNOPTIC PATTERN WILL PERSIST DURING AT LEAST THE NEXT 12
HOURS...BRINGING THE CENTER OF THE TROPICAL CYCLONE INLAND WITHIN
THE WARNING AREA LATER TODAY. BASED ON THE CURRENT MOTION WHICH IS
A LITTLE MORE TO THE NORTH THAN EARLIER...THE OFFICIAL FORECAST IS
SHIFTED A BIT TO THE RIGHT OF THE PREVIOUS TRACK AND IS JUST A
LITTLE TO THE NORTH OF THE DYNAMICAL MODEL CONSENSUS.

I had noticed that shift to right of the track in the last couple of radar frames.
Latest advisory says 65 mph sustained.

EDOUARD IS MOVING TOWARD THE WEST-NORTHWEST NEAR 12 MPH...19 KM/HR
...AND THIS MOTION IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE TODAY. ON THE
FORECAST TRACK...THE CENTER OF EDOUARD IS EXPECTED TO BE NEAR OR
OVER THE UPPER TEXAS OR SOUTHWESTERN LOUISIANA COASTS BY MIDDAY
TODAY.
Duddy, I stand corrected, perhaps it is possible still for a Louisiana landfall.

I am still suprised that there were never any hurricane warnings issued...I understand there is not a huge difference, in a 70 mph TS and a 80 mph Cane, but its the principal. Not to mention, once again, we have a strengthening system upon landfall in texas. If this does come in as a verified cane, I think the NHC just will have been caught with there pants down.

It will be a close call. It really makes little difference if it's 65 mph or 74 mph, though.

With it looking more like a High Island landfall (see NHC cone with 4 a.m. advisory), that will put Beaumont/Port A to the right of the eye in the onshore flow.
4 a.m. advisory says 2 to 4 ft. storm surge in that onshore flow. What will that mean there in SE Texas?

Latest radar shot, really looks to me as if an eye is trying to form.

It shouldn't be a big problem. No beach developments in the area from Sabine Pass to High Island. All developed areas are to the southwest around Crystal Beach.

I don't think so, but it looks like Port A is about to get rocked by an intense band.

The radar shows a very disorganized system. With maybe slight hints of a eye, but this system don't have more then a few more hours to form one.
