Highest number of invests?

#1 Postby Category 5 » Mon Aug 11, 2008 7:33 am

I noticed on NRL that there are current 5 invests in the WPAC. Now I'm curious, does anyone know what was the most invests active at the same time in one basin?

As I hit the Submit button, there are 10 simultaneous invests around the world at the Navy site, including six in the WPAC. ....probably not a record, but it's more than I've personally seen at one time.

92L - 93L

01C - 94C

94W - 96W - 97W - 98W - 99W

12 systems out there.

(I wasn't counting TDs or named systems. Only "Invests". Did he want all storms?)

I keep snapshots of interesting NRL situations. Some of the good ones include:

- 2006-09-21: 96L, 98E, Hector, 92C, Ioke, 96W, 95W, 94W, Wukong, 98B (10 items)
- 2006-10-27: 93L, 18E, 99C, 97W, 22W, 98B, 01P (all basins active)
- 2007-02-05: 99P, 98S, 97S, Nelson, 12S, 11P, Dora (seven items in the SHEM)
- 2007-07-29: 98L.LIMA, among others (eventually became Chantal)
- 2007-08-28: 94L, 94E, 94W (94x invasion)
- 2007-08-30: 97L, 96L, 95L, 94L, 95E, Gil, 92C, Fitow (lots of ATL)
- 2007-09-23: 10L, 11L, 12E (Ivo), 13E, 15W (10-15, missing 14)
- 2007-09-23 (later): 97L, 96L, 94L, Jerry, 10L, 13E, Ivo, 96W, Francisco, 94A, 93B (11 items)
- 2008-08-02: 99W, 99L, 90W, 90L, 91L, 92E, 93E (99 -> 90-93)

If I recall correctly, at one point in 2005 we had 2 active named storms and three invests in the Atlantic basin at one time. If I get a chance, I'll dig up the info. I may be crazy, but I think there may have been 3 named storms simultaneously during all this.

There were. From early September 7 to early September 10, the storms Maria, Nate and Ophelia were active.

The points at which we had two active named storms:
- Cindy-Dennis
- Dennis-Emily
- Franklin-Gert
- Harvey-Irene
- Maria-Nate-Ophelia
- Ophelia-Philippe
- Philippe-Rita
- Stan-Unnamed
