I'm starting to think that really is where the new center has formed. Almost looks like an eyewall on the IR?

Nope

The only problem with that eyewall theory is that the spot on the satellite imagery is 100 miles north of the center. Remember, that convection is not located over the center of Claudette - it's being sheared off to the north.

Coords

Well, as I measure the center on my screen, it's about 150 miles across north/south and 120 miles across east/west. Just one giant low with several small eddies rotating around. Recon keeps finding a center near the northeastern part of this broad low pressure region around 24.4N/90.8W.

Chad, I'm coming in to chat...hopefully you're there, cuz I'm wondering about what my untrained eyes are seeing on here: http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/PS/TROP/DATA/RT ... -loop.html
after what you showed us here: http://www.storm2k.org/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=8624

My question is in regards to where you showed us that water vapor line (illustrated with your green line) and how it was blocking Claudette from us and moving her either west or north, depending upon her speed and so forth. On the newest WV loop, it looks like the line is thinning out (?) or dissipating, especially over the TX/LA border (again, I don't know met stuff so I don't really know what I'm seeing).

Is that a problem that could allow Claudette to come this way since, to me, she still doesn't look westerly enough for my comfort or am I just seeing something that I don't know how to interpret?

Thanks, Chad and anyone else!

Look Lower

#13 Postby wxman57 » Sat Jul 12, 2003 2:44 pm

Don't look at the upper-levels for steering on this one, look down low. Winds aloft may be strong and from the south, but the storm is weak and down low. Winds at 20,000ft and below are blowing from the N-NE (or will be as the high builds east tomorrow). Claudette will move with the mid to low-level flow - toward Texas.
