Katrina vs Ivan vs Andrew
When comparing the three which was the largest as far as area covered by hurricane force winds?

Not sure???? Ivan had a large swath of Tropical Storm winds (felt them in New Orleans), also Andrew (which hit in Morgan City) and certainly Katrina which was to our east. I'd think that Katrina had the widest overall sphere of influence (and certainly surge) from Grand Isle to Dauphin Island. One of the pros or historians should know the answer.

Wilma also had a huge area of sustained hurricane force winds at landfall...on the order of 90 miles from the center. Probably ranks second to Katrina as far as diameter of hurricane force winds.
In terms of population effected, Wilma is probably the top storm....something on the order of 5 million+ people in south florida were in that 90 mile radius from the center....which is why she ranks only behind Katrina and Andrew as costliest storms in U.S. history. Sustained Cat1/Cat2 conditions over that population density produced a shocking amount of damage.
