The radar not working was my cache overloaded. Works now.

Wind and rain really picking up here. Not sure what its gusting to, I could hear it wipping around outside.

I'm waiting for the 10PM surface obs., as I suspect that the new convective activity developing is going to transport higher winds to the surface soon.

The winds have picked up here in Miami to, no doubt about it. At least nearish to the coast.

Just a observation and question, but if the center of Fay moved over Lake Okachobee would it be possible for it to briefly intensify the system?

convection popping off of broward county and i think this trend will continue with convection toward the east side increasing as the trough axis pushes down against fay's NW side

Likely not, as Fay will have traversed a large expanse of land by then, however it could well help maintain the system.

Re: Florida Closings - Schools, businesses etc.

Hi everyone!

I am delurking for a moment to say that I agree with the closings of the schools. Like posted previously some folks are expected at work rain, shine or cane, so they would have to run around finding a sitter for a day. I know I wouldn't want my children at school if I had any doubt. Fortunately for me I homeschool (one for now, two more to go) so it isn't a problem anyway. But I do remember the days when my teens were in public school back during Fran, Floyd, Bertha etc. and it was tough when I was expected at work, or was on call for the bank's IT department.

The everglades should help maintain it as well.

I must have jinxed it because right when I said no convection was heading to Miami my area is about to get pounded by what looks like a comma on radar :D
I imagine some wind will be in that too.

I just brought my dad (whose condo is right on the Lee/Collier County line) down to my house in Central Naples. Very squally weather with heavy downpours and a decent wind....

Nothing major so far...wonder what the night will bring??? :double:

Goes to show how much of a narrow divide there is with that trough and this small storm. Your weather should be up here in an hour or so but right now we're still on the dry side. A few "heaves" of wind as I type arriving. Like Gabrielle the winds come in big pushes.

Looks like that shortwave is kicking up an ULL as it swings through. Wondering if it will shear the top of Fay.

HURAKAN wrote:I hope we could tell you exactly what the storm will do and what you should do. Unfortunately the only thing the forecasters can do is look at the environmental and oceanic factors and using the help of computer models and experience, tell they expect to happen.

It's always better to prepare for the worse and expect the best.

Florida needed rain and we're getting rain. I don't see anything bad about Fay if you took minor preparedness like staying inside your house and away from windows. If you live in a flood-prone area or in a mobile home, you should evacuate even with a depression. Any tropical cyclone can produce heavy rainfall and tornadoes.

I like that quote HURAKAN..."It's always better to prepare for the worse and expect the best."

I tossed around the idea of putting my shutters up or not. I am up here on the Treasure Coast in Port St. Lucie and we took direct hits from Frances and Jeanne back in 04 and a pretty good blow from Wilma in 05. After much thought I figured what the heck. I went ahead and put my panels on. If anything it is good practice for when the real deal really comes. Plus, the thought of tornadoes with Fay are of a concern and I wouldn't want to be caught off guard. I was able to button up the entire house in 45 minutes, and in the dark no less. Not bad considering I have not done it in 3 years. I know all the neighbors were looking at me like I was nuts but I figure it's better to be safe than sorry. I didn't spend $1500.00 for them just to sit in the garage all the time.

Just to bring a little clarity.

Unless you ARE on the inside of the EOC...FEMA world...and listen to the conference calls...and KNOW the politics that go into these forecasts (and the FACT that it isn't some forecaster choosing their best idea anymore...but by and large sticking to the consensus track)...you cannot understand the frustration. So...its not a matter of trolling...I don't think. I really don't think most of you understand what the real deal is.

I know many of us would love to invite you into our world for just ONE of these events. You would walk away with a whole new perspective.[/quote]

:D Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fay's really slowed down the last hour or so. I can detect little movement now. Starting to get some banding on the south side again.

If it were to move directly over the Everglades...which its not likely to do...they would not maintain it. It would still weaken...not as much as if it was moving inland over SE TX...but it would still weaken.

I'm second guessing my decision not to put up my shutters. Not because of the T.S. winds but because of the tornados. The last warning was about 30 miles from my house.
